Oil slosh - pressure drops 30psi

I've noticed an interesting phenomenon on my new engine build. When braking, even just in traffic, the decelleration seems to make the oil slosh around (or something) in the pan. This results in drops in pressure of up to 30psi when hot (50->20 @ 800rpm) for a short period of time.

The gauge is a mechanical gauge hooked off the pressure sensor hole alone.

I am a bit concerned that there may be some sort of supply issue in the event that I take the car to the track, or even just in heavy street driving. Has anyone seen this sort of thing before?

Only one time, and when I checked the dipstick it was 1 quart below the fill mark.

Hmmm. Interesting... Could it be that when you come to a complete stop the pressure goes down due to the engine speed going down? I may be smokin crack here, but my old Chrysler did that every time I came to a complete stop.(I don't have a gauge on my stang so I don't know if it does it or not.) It would seem like the pressure would build up as the engine RPM got higher.

What they said. My idiot light comes on momentarally under heavy braking or cornering when I'm down a quart.

I read it as the rpm is 800 and the pressure drops to 20psi and then rises to 50psi still at 800rpms.. I would check the level, and raise it until it goes away.

My experience is low oil level causes this to happen. When breaking, the oil moves away from the pickup tube and you suck air (don't want to do that). If you had a high mileage engine and oil pressure is low at idle, then it could be excessive wear. You stated the engine is new. On a recent new engine in our mustang, we had the problem, turned out the oil pan took 7 quarts (non-stock item). When we put all seven in, problem went away. I would caution not to add execessive oil. If the oil level gets too hi, the rotating assy. may impact the oil and the oil will foam - you don't want that either.

OK so the general view is maybe the oil is a bit low. I didnt think this was the case, but will try adding a bit more to see how I go.
