okay, 1week after suspension install, rear doesn't sit level!!!!!!

Okay, my online brethren and sistren.

When I first installed it, it was even left and right. Now the right rear (psngr side) sits almost 1" higher than the left. I loosened all the U bolts and drove it around the block, shook it, bounced on it, etc, and bolted it back up tight, then drove it around again. Now the right is lower, but still about .5" higher than the left!

Any ideas??

That's the first thing I checked.

However, I don't think the shocks would make it sit 1" higher, because I can compress them by hand even more than they are compressed while on the car...so wouldn't they just compress until the weight evened the stance out?

The shocks are not the culprit here. Just one question what type of suspension product did you get, what brand? I had a similar problem with my 66 fastback and it turned out to be the springs.

I got the Mustangs Plus "Grab A Track" kit with 4.5 leaf mid-eye springs and GAT shocks.

I did the front, too, but it seems fine.

Did you replace the leaf spring shackels when you did suspension swap?

Has the car been in a wreck in its lifetime?? If so, the frame may crooked. Mine sits a little low on the right and I know that I need a frame pull done.

Hey, Buzz. As far as I can tell, and what the PO (third owner) said, no. The frame looks very straight and clean. Also, before I did the suspension, the car sat level.

Did you possibly overtighten one of the four bolts that connect the bushings in the rear shackles? The front bushings also need a little play but any of the four being too tight to move around could cause one to be "jacked".

I had a similar problem with my mustang plus leaf springs I had the 5 leaf mid eye setup switched them from side to side and still had the problem. called mustang plus explained the problem and they wanted me to send them back so they could test them. I live in jersey their in Cal. didnt make sense to send them all the way back to have them tell me nothing is wrong. I eventually just bought a set from landrum. Problem solved.

I'd try disconnecting the sway bar (and the rear if you have one) and see if it makes a difference. Overtightening the end links on the bar will make one side sit higher.

My frame looks straight too. The body is actually sitting off center due to a wreck at some time before my ownership.

If it really drives you nuts, just adjust the bumper so that it is level and then the car will look level.

jack the car up and put jacks under the rear frame rails....the same height. Then measure from the wheel wells to the ground and see if they are the same. Then you would know if its your frame or if your body panels are off or something.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. After I loosened the Ubolt nuts, drove it, then retightened it, the fender lips are now within 1/4 of each other, height-wise. I haven't checked the shackle bolts yet, but I'll do that as well. I didn't put the rear sway-bar in yet becase I haven't had time.

Basically, you need to have the full weight of the car on the springs before you torque the shackles. Loosen the shackle bolts, and see if anything moves back. If it doesn't move, it wasn't the shackles binding.

I think that's exactly the mistake we made; the car was elevated slightly on jackstands, and the tires were on the ground. We did this so we could easily center the positioning studs on the leaf springs into the lower shock mount.

Like I said, I reset the Ubolts with the weight on the car, and it now sits within 1/4 on either side, and I haven't redone the shackle bolts yet.

If it sits within a 1/4" of each other...id be satisifed. Something else you may want to look at...tire pressure...make sure its equal!
