Like many others of you my car has the Mach 460 system and an aftermarket HU. While it is indeed quite an excellent factory system, the stock mids on the doors have seen better days. Last year I swapped them out for a nice pair of infinities...

I'm sure a few of you already spotted my error. Being an impulsive idiot I didn't do enough research on the speakers themselves - I was only concerned with making sure they fit (not making sure that they worked)

After all, why the hell would ford use home theatre standard speakers in its cars? So basically, I now understand that the ohm ratings of the infinities and stock amp/speakers do not match up.

Finally my question: Do I have to basically take out the entire mach460 system...amps and speakers in order to get these two infinities working? is there a converter or something?

Thanks guys

Tear it all out dude. The Mach 460 sucks. If I remember correctly, the amps were designed to run 12 Ohm speakers :bang: I ran 4 Ohm speakers off it, but got wise and removed every trace of the factory system, replaced it with good equipment and never looked back. The sound quality was night and day. Those stock amps have terrible dynamic range and just sound sloppy.

find a good car audio shop around you and they should know the problems with the mach 460 and aftermarket stuff.. You should be able to get from them a set of filters that reduces the signal so you can aftermarket stuff with the 460 amps. should be a lot easier than ripping out the mach 460 stuff unless you want to reduce some weight in the car.

Did you ever figure out an answer for the problem. Did the same mistake you did and installed 2 infinity speakers on the front doors. Don't want to mess with pulling the mach460 out, and rewiring the whole car.

So, did the resistors for the speakers work? If so, can I just use any old radio-shack resistor, or a special type?
If the resistors did not work, then what did you do?

i guess we're kinda bringin this back from the dead... but i am in the same boat, but with pioneer 6x8's instead of infiniti speakers. Im very interested too since this sounds like a much easier, quicker, and most importantly CHEAPER fix than what everyone else was telling me to do- rip out the 460, thanks, Kyle

If you guys are brave enough to try this, let me know. I'd be interested in the results. I'm ditching my Mach system, but if this worked, it would be nice to answer questions in the future with an actual solution, instead of just saying, "you can't use aftermarket speakers with the mach system"
