one piece front windows?

Does anyone know of a company that makes one-piece front windows for a '65-'66 that do away with the vent windows? I've seen this done on numerous street rods as well as on some '67 Camaros, and I think it would really clean up the side profile of the car, particularly with the drip rails removed. Has anyone seen this mod on an early model Mustang?

When you say you saw it done on a 1967 Camaro is because in 1968 the Camaro's did away with the vent windows! So, you're seeing 68 Doors or 68 door glass in a 1967 Camaro!

It will probably have to be a custom cut peice of glass, I just doubt you'd be lucky enough to find an OEM sheet that would fit the stock weatherstrip.

On the other hand, I'd love to put quarter-vents onto my 2005, I LOVE those things!

Wind wings are the best! Thats one of the many reasons I wanted an old Mustang. They are a lifesaver when all you have is California air(I kept the A/C on the '68, though).

To answer the question, I personally have never seen it done and it would probably be a custom job.

there was a glass company on Overhaulin that made the glass for a Falcon,i have been wanting to do this too.

That is not DOT approved for street use and will probably fail inspection..unless you take it to them with the windows down. On a show-car it would be fine I guess though.

what inspection? Maybe tech inspection? The drag racers in Hawaii use lexan, the roadracers/opentrackers have their windows open. The old Total Control had a lexan windshield given it was a track only car. If no one ever inspects the car then what is wrong with it? It won't shatter like glass. We're only talking door glass anyway. It would lighten up the door quite a bit. Not trying to be an ass Edbert. I'm sure there are plenty of problems with it.

I'm sure if there is no window frame it would swing out in the wind I guess. Maybe if it were on a falcon it would work fine.

You are right, the local kid at jiffy lube might just pass your car. You may not have any issues either, but if the swap is illegal and (god-forbid) you are in an injury accident you don;t want some scumbag lawyer finding out about your illegal racing-only glass now.

This conversion has been done numerous times on street rods that I have seen, but I suspect all are right who have said you would need custom glass. The biggest problem I have with vent windows is the inevitable wind noise you get with them. In addition, I would be interested in doing this because I think it would clean-up the lines of the car from a custom standpoint. My '65 has no emblems whatsoever and no seams at the rockers, front and rear valances, the cowl area, and area behind the rear window before the trunk. If you're interested in some subtle modifications, to me there is nothing more important that you can do than just to clean the lines of the car up through these types of mods. I think the one-piece front windows would add to the clean lines much like drip-rail removal, although I realize its not for everyone.

I am with 65up2d8 I would like to see this done to a 65-66 I would love to do it to my car also. I saw that falcon they did it to on overhaulin' i thought it looked sweet. I see a chance for someone to make some $$ !!

Yeah, plexiglass is a bad idea - you need to be able to smash side windows so you can get out if the doors are jammed (the reason they don't laminate door glass), though I do wonder how the President's bullet proof limo passes inspection...

Plexiglass will also scuff and scratch every time it is wound up or down.

I think it'd look cool - the Cal Look bug guys have been doing it for decades - unless the glass is flat, you're gonna need custom glass. Very, very expensive.

Are you speaking for you and your car? I notice you are in Kalifornia...is that because your car is a show car and not legal for street driving?

Hmmm...Florida too? How many other states do not require annual safety inspections?

Yeah, the inspection requirement only applies if you live in the City of Memphis. If you live in the county, no inspection is required.

Around here they usually just make sure your headlights, horn and signals work. Inspection is more of an annual tax than a safety thing, but everyone seems to eventually go they way of Kalifornia. Starting last week (September 1st) they started sniffing tail pipes for all cars model year 1968 and newer. They charge the owner an additional $20 for the "service" too.

Question: If you have a 1 piece window without a channel for the top to go into and no vertical stabilizer, what keeps the window from getting sucked out when driving down the highway? Not sucked out completely, but being pulled away from the body, allowing wind to come in?

I've been playing with this idea for years. My initial idea was from the bugs. But they have flat windows. The convex nature of the Mustang glass would make this an expensive swap.

I have never gotten serious enough about to find a manufacturer, but since I'm building a roadster with my vert, the vent windows are just being removed.

Any glass shop guys out there that wanna play with the idea, you got a place to retail it!!!
