Hello,

I figured it would happen eventually, but my stang is now only spinning the right rear tire. An impromptu burnout thanks to some sprinklers the other night alerted me to the problem. I'm assuming my posi is shot. There is a pretty "loose" feeling in the rear end overall.

I've got a 92 with the stock rear end now (99,600 miles), and the axle code shows a 3.08 rear ratio (with a t-5). My motor is mostly stock, except for an s-trim blower and a few related upgrades. I plan to do the H/C/I over the summer, along with mostly bolt-on parts after that. The car is for 98% street duty (non-daily) with a few trips to the track.

What gear ratio is best for 5 speed blower cars? I'm thinking 3.73, but have also seen a lot of supercharged cars running 3.55. Any opinions would be helpful.

Also, what should I do about the worn rear end? Auburn? Stock rebuild? or something else? I will also go to an aluminum driveshaft at the same time since it's a pretty reasonable upgrade.

If more info is needed, just let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.

Alan

i am puting in 3.55 with my set-up in my sig and also going with a eaton E-locker you can lock up the rear axles wit a switch for tru posi at the track(or street racing) and then release it with another press of the button summit sells it. but it is almost 700$$$$$ or you could just rebuild you stock trac-lock.

Personally, I would just refresh the thing with 3:75 gears and a traction-lock rebuild and be done with it. It will give you some really nice get up and go, yet will still work with the supercharger. Just my $0.02.

Thanks for the quick replies.

This is definitely not a blank check situation, but I will be able to afford something pretty nice. If stock rebuild is the smart way to go, so be it. Just curious of some options.

My mantra for the mustang since I bought it is:

"When it breaks, replace with better than stock"

Very helpful info so far, anyone else care to weigh in?

Thanks,

Alan

I like my Eaton. It performed well this year. Having had 3.08's, 3.73's and 4.10's now, I would go 73's with the blower, no higher. While you are in there you may want to go with larger axles, say 31 spline and top it off with a nice girdle for support. Tom.

I Would get an eaton posi and some hardend 31 spline axles , aluminium driveshaft and 3.73 gears I Had 3.55 ratio but swaped over to a world class t5z with a 2.95 1st so I switched to 3.73 I Have a powerdyne equipped mustang 11 # boost eatons are rebuildable too..

I would say rebuild the stock one with a few extra clutches.. I think i read about having 8 total in there and it working good... I also could have completely made that up, I'll check my back issues when i go home next weekend. As for gears w/ a S/C I would go with 3.55s

I would rebuild the stock traction loc unit. Use Ford Motorsport part #m4700b should retail for around $50. I went the Auburn route a few years back and ended up wasting about $400 when it was all said and done.
