Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

I have a friend with a basically stock 94' Cobra. The only modifications to the drivetrain is a set of longtubes, x-pipe, and mufflers. Before I put my opinion up, I wanted to get some of your guys opinions. Would he benefit at all from a larger aftermarket MAF, or is the factory MAF as big as it needs to be?

I'm a fan of opening up the intake tract all the way if you are going to do it. Make sure your components flow the same air all the way through.

I would suspect most gains from mass airs are from running the cars a little leaner than the factory's fairly rich calibration.

Ok, sounds like good advice. I told him to go with the PMAS, but he wants to spend the extra money on the Granetelli. I've always been a fan of Pro-M, and I don't see the point in the Granettelli.

Never used Granettelli or know of anyone that has, why's he so set on that meter VS one thats proven to be top notch quality like the PMAS?

Because he likes things that are more expensive. He also wants to get a blow through MAF. I guess Steeda has started recommending the blow through MAF for N/A cars, because they are more accurate.

If he wants expensive tell him to buy DBX for $400 then another $34 for the harness then it can die on him like mine did :rlaugh:

Or I can just sell him my replacement one for cheap :D

The Granettelli is a VERY accurate meter :nice:

IMHO ... I don't think he'll see a difference with an aftermarket meter

He is not gonna generate enough airflow to make his OEM meter
become inadequate

Granted it only has exhaust mods to the car but wouldn't a custom tune produce better results for about the same money? That's the way i went, and i used my stock maf all the way until i put my bigger motor in. i know i never came close to pegging 5 volts with my bolt on 302. i had exhaust, pullies, throttle body, and cold air intake.

The fellow who posted about the meter making such a difference

No way would I wanna dispute what he said

however

Without getting all involved in load factors, fuel ratios, yada.. yada .. yada

I'd bet money he was too fat before the meter upgrade

The new meter most likely was not like it should have of been
but
It put him closer to what he needed (leaner) and he just lucked out

As a fellow who has spent a LOT of time on tuner sites
and
Seen many peeps install an aftermarket meter

I can tell you when you look at the hard data of what a meter does
with no tuning input ... most of the time ... on a 94-95 pcm ... it
throws the load all outta whack ... and that hoses with your fuel
AND spark tables big time
