i have a friend that has a 2001 SS 6 speed camaro and it's a nice car. His has less than 50,000 miles on it and it runs 8.70's in the 1/8th and has more left in it. Having driven the car several times I am not a big fan of those cars.
I like the seats better than mustangs but the interior and controls don't feel good at all to me. The steering wheel is ugly and feels huge. The power windows are crap and the overall build quality isn't all that imho.
The good things are that they respond well to modifications and have alot of power in factory form. The car itself just doesn't feel good to me.
Many LS1's I have come across are stock. The ones that were modded, all had problems. They all would hit their rev limiters. I never noticed with my Cobra, because I was so far ahead of them, but I remeber being a teen, racing one, in my 92 5spd GT. I only had Flowmaster weld in mufflers, and a BBK CAI, and I took one 3 times because his H/C/I LS1 hit the rev limiter in 2nd and 3rd gears!! If I were you, I would buy a stock one.
We've had the typical modding bugs with our TA but you have that with any car. And if the car is tuned correctly and the driver isn't a complete dip**** you won't hit the rev. limiter lol. But i agree unless you know the car your buying or know the person done everything RIGHT like the tuning and mods then buy a stock one. Otherwise you'll run into what i found on a few LS1 modded cars, the ppl. modded them but done no tuning what so ever.
theyre pretty fast from the factory. Have fun working on them and sitting on the floorpan.
Not true either it's all in how you take car of the car. Motor will hold up to just as much actually more then a 5.0 will. Diff is crap but if you get an auto you really won't have to worry about it much unless your doing a million burnouts and launching on slicks from 6k rpm.
I know If I have it it will not be stock before the week is over lol, the ls1 is a very strong engine, ive beaten a couple ls1 cars and lt1 cars in my 86' that has a exploder engine, but not by very much, one I killed but he couldnt drive and it was a total pos. im gonna have to go drive a couple this weekend and see for my self, and working on any lsx engine is easy to me so thats no prob...
you gotta by the mullet separately though. j/k i would get a ws6 instead same thing but i like the look with the ram air hood w/ t-tops seen a vid a while ago some guy had a purge kit and it came out of the air ram scoops fuggin sweet!
always wanted to do something similar with my air ram hood but i cant stand mine (shot to hell)
man o man, if I could get my 99 z28 back. I sold it to get a bigger family vehicle when I got married. the wife already had a mustang and I had a child from a prior marriage and we couldnt squeeze the three of us into either car. anyways, one word FUGGINAWESOME!!!!!
300 ponies out of the box and still got 18-20mpg in town. they respond great to mods, and with an x pipe they sound like a mutherfuggin stock car. I would shy away from the auto if you plan to upgrade.The shift quickly, but are super weak and suck on the hwy. I swapped out LS6 HCI and I blew 2 4l60e's. I found it a great car to work on. the suspension is super simple(also weak) subframes should be at the top of the mod list, followed next by LT headers, full 3" exhaust, and a new airlid without the baffles.
