Optima Battery - Which model to get for my 2000 GT>>>

Well, my stock battery is not charging to the level that it used to and I feel it is time to add a new battery and I am leaning toward the Optima brand. My question is two fold - what colour top should I go with for performance and longevity, and is there a specific model that I need for my 2000 Mustang GT. I should also note that I am running about 1000 watts of amplifiers (including the stock unit and my aftermarket JL system).

I would love a blue top to match my Vortech accessories, but the literature suggests these are for boats. Any input regarding the series (ie. top colour) as well as the specific model that I will need for my GT would be greatly appreciated.

get a redtop. the yellow tops are more for cars with systems that are left on for periods of time while the car isn't running.

Just get the red top, they are the cheapest ones and are excellent.

Just a little FYI

I was at Costco last weekend and the carry Optima batteries there.

Not sure what they cost or how they compared price wise to other stores, but it's worth a look if you have access and a membership there.

Well, I owned a yellow top first and it lasted about 18 months, stored 2 winters, started up fine both times. They have a 1 year warranty. Now I have a red top and its great, they have a three year warranty. If I had to do it all over again I would get one of those dynabat batteries (i think thats what they are called). They are dry cell, but they only weigh like 10 lbs or so compared to the 50lbs that a optima weighs. Look around and I am sure you can find it.

I have the Redtop. They weigh a ton, much much heavier than the stock Motorcarft one. I regret spending $130 on it. I wish I would have just bought a regular brand one for $70, and it'll be lighter too.

I had a yellow top while i had my 5.0. Let it drain down a couple times and sit over two winters, never gave me any problems. I would highly reccomend it if you have the money to spend.

Optima batteries are REALLY heavy. When I had to replace my battery I considered Optima, but for what they cost and how heavy they are, you really dont need one. They were designed to go in race cars with no charging system and are really overkill in a street car. By an OEM style battery and youll be fine.

Just shift some weight around...get a cheep battery-in-your-trunk kit and put that extra weight over your right rear wheel to help traction and you can lighten up the front of your stang.

Blue tops = Marine, boats
Yellow tops = golf carts
Red tops = cars

But a lot of people use Yellow tops if they have lots of electronics like kick ass stereo systems.

Yellow or Red top, both are great investiment. I got Yellow top(because when i bought the Battery 7 years ago, I was heavily involved in car Audio, and all they had was Yellow top).
been in many cars since then(Camry, 2 MR2's, Couger), and have not yet to failed on me

If I remember correctly they were

Red 104.99

Blue 144.99

Yellow 149.99

I've got the Red Top 75/35 series in my car. It fits in the tray, but there's a little space between the battery retainer and the battery. I haven't had any movement from it, so I haven't messed with it yet. The optima batteries come with hold down and height adapters.

Also if you're interested, here's the tech specs for the batteries. Technical Specs

I got mine from AutoZone for 109.99. If you get it from there, hopefully the guy you're dealing with will know what you're talking about and you'll have better luck than I did.
