Oregon DEQ

How did you guys manage to pass DEQ without cats?

Though I'm not driving it this winter, I took my stang through DEQ a while back when the reg. was about to expire, almost passed but not quite, too many hydrocarbons I think...

I guess welding some cats in will be a spring project. I'm all for being earth friendly... but damn those things have gotten expensive in the past couple years. It's like $175-200 for a pair of the high flows now.

1996+ they just scan it and give it a visual (but dont know what they are looking at anyway LOL)

Pre-96 you will need cats or some good tuning to get it to pass. I have heard rumors of people passing without cats, but its not easy.

Keep in mind the high flows are usually crap, best is to find someone with a stock cat pipe and swap it in, pass, and back out. There is a reason there were 4 cats in the stock sets.

After I did my H/C/I and installed my Bassani catted X my LX passed the sniffer cleaner than when it was new.
