OT- Should I buy a bike??

I know it's way off topic but I need some advice. I'm really going hard core on modding my car and am just about done. All I need is the stall, chip and prochamber. But gas is just killing me. Everyday I drive about 60 miles and have to fill up about every 3 days. I can probably get away with $10 of gas on the bike a week. I can get a GSXR 600 for $100 a week at the dealership. I know everything is telling me to just go for it, but I'm not sure. What would you all recommend??

I can get a 2004 model for about $8000 and $100 a month. Is it a good idea to buy a used bike since I know nothing about fixing them if it breaks down?

Man, a bike is completly WORTH it.

I went from dropping 100 a month in gas to about $40-50 in gas. It just depended on how much joy riding i did. OFCOURSE one factor is. How much does it rain where you are at? The past few years its been raining like a biotch in VA. So i could not ride the bike most of summer/fall/spring. However, that said I did get about 2months worth of good riding.

Actually i sold my 1993 FZR because of the rain here... Getting a new one this winter though... I cant stay off a bike just too much of a rush.

i want a bike too. i would totally do it if i had the money, but i would probably get a used old harley so i could work on it. plus what is cooler than saying you have a mustang and a harley.

R6 here too, but I made a deal with the girl, we get a house first, I realy cant complain I want a house myself. I just hope that I can find a job after I am a collage grad.

ive had plenty of chances to get good bikes from friends at very cheap prices. i have never ridden on and never will ride a bike. too many crappy people driving on the road nowadays and i love speed so much that either if someone doesnt kill me on the road, i will kill myself or get such a massive ticket i will have to sell the bike anyways....thats my reasoning at least

Just got to work on my 600 F4i this morning!! Nothing like a sport bike hands down. And chicks do dig a guy with a sport bike and a mustang. Gas is great but was even better before I switch sprockets for more low end grunt. $100 a month is sweet if I were you I'd do it in a second. Nothing like 160 on two wheels.

Well...hate to be debbie downer but I've had 2 friends get killed on bikes, both within a couple weeks of purchasing them...True, one was being dumb and trying to top out his Hyabusa and Ate it while doing it, but the other was pure accident, he got rear ended by a truck. Plus not to mention the number of bikes I see at our dealer auctions that have been crunched up into almost unrecognizable balls of metal and plastic. So I vote no on the bike, and yes I realize there's countless people who never have an accident on them...

Get a bike? Yes. Get a GSXR as a first bike, No. $100 a month on a brand new gixxer? are they financing it for 10 years, or will the payments go up later (not a good thing, but lots of people buy into this type of loan) Insurance? Just thoughts.. if you save on gas, but have higher insurance, and a payment, are you really saving? You will be paying AT LEAST $25 a week for the bike, + insurance costs + gas in the bike, and you still will drive the car more than the bike, almost guarenteed. I lived with nothing but a bike for 3 years, I look back on those years and am glad I did it, but NO WAY I would live with just my bike now.. ('98 996 Superhawk). Rode in rain, snow hail hot cold, everything... not now. weather gets iffy, or I need to carry very much, or wife wants to go...etc.. got that big 'ol supercharged explorer out there in the driveway...

A new bike is ok, but if you can work on your 'stang, you can work on a used bike.. they are the same, just smaller.. lol

Yeah I really wanted a bike too until a police officer came into my science class and showed us a bunch of pictures. Scary thing was, most of the accidents werent even the bikers fault, mostly retarded people doing stupid stuff and the biker happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

He brings up a good point. not sure how old you are but for full coverage (required if you are financing) when I was 19 when i bought the bike was 220 a month. Now 1 accident and two tickets later I'm paying $150/mo and I'm only 22. So its going to be a fat hit to the pocket book if your under 25. To me it's completely worth it however. I'm young and crazy. I Love Wheelies, draggin knees and topping out 6th gear on the freeway. But if you've never rode a street bike before a Gsxr 600 WILL be a handful.

Bikes are a rush, and get great milage. But consider the negatives:
Insurance is very high, especially if your under 25.
Bikes can't be driven 25%-50% of the year (depending on where u live), and you have to decide which months to put insurance on it.
Accidents are horrible, sometimes the bike's fault, sometimes not.
I'm not against bikes, I think they are bad a**, thier just a hassel.
Just a quick story of an idiot not wearing a helmet:
I friend of mine last year saw a guy on an R6 race a 3000GT VR4. Half way into it, the guy on the bike lost control, smashing into cement embankment. My friend approached the scene to see the driver's status. His body was all mangled, and his head was smashed into an rectanglar shape. His body was still quivering and moving. His body didn't know he was dead yet. ouch.

I got an 02 F4i bout a year and a half ago, its my first bike and I love it. But have recently been thinkin bout trading it in for a v-twin sport bike. The F4i is a nice bike.... good enough for me to start on.... and also fast enough to scare you.

Im suprised noone has mentioned it yet TAKE THE MSF COURSE!

I feel you man I've had my F4i for about 3 years now and I've been looking at a couple of bikes with hungry eyes. The 04 honda 1000RR and pretty much any year RC51!! Rode my friends RC51 a couple weeks back and fell in love with that v-twin torque.
