Oh man, I can't stress enough how awesome those bikes are. I learned to ride on one. They only weigh 370 pounds and have 120 horse, redlines around 15Gs.

Don't get a Ninja, they are too top heavy and honestly... look gay.

If you're in South Texas, you could definately ride it year round. I say go for it. Every day this summer during my internship I would get a kick out of the company president climbing off his '03 Fat Boy in the parking lot.

Chicks DEFINATELY dig the bike. Its about having that power between their legs.

first off yes its worth it. but only if you take the time and discpline to be a safe biker.

take the MSF course( Motorcycle Saftey Foundation) this will teach you TONS about riding, laws, rules of the road etc.

get the idea out of your head about buying a gixxer as a first bike....yes even a 600cc. these bikes are very "twitchy", light, sensitive throttle response etc.... all bad for a beginner.

get a kawasaki ninja 250 or 500....ride the piss out of it for 6months to a year sell it for what you bought it.... i myself made $100 on mine.

then step up to a 600cc bike. you'll know alot more about riding the 250/500 bike and be alot more gentle transcition to the bigger bike, you'll also be a better rider....

dont skimp on the gear, gloves, helmet, riding boots and leather pants/riding jeans and a nice quality good fitting jacket. leather preforated (breathable) is the best.

oh buy a used non fairing bike (fairings are the plastic stuff) you'll most likely lay the first bike down....no need to scratch up a few thousand dollar plastic....

now. when you get proficent with riding on the street take a driving school course (track) this will help you so much you wont understand...both on the road and the track.

also see if you have any clubs in your area....riding with others is tons of fun and safer when done right... + you'll meet other riders who can help you choose a bike. go look for a club and see if you can ask someone to come along with you when choosing your bike. they'll know what to look for and can give you advice.

I'm just not too crazy about the earlier model ninjas, the ones you see all over the place. Obviously a brand new 160hp ninja is a nice bike. I just don't care for ninjas. A subaru sti is a nice car, I just done like subarus. Anyways, I'd much rather have a 2005 180hp R1 anyday over ANY production ninja. Just my opinion.

Love that one too!! LOL My friend has one and it's awesome. IMO any of the big 4 make great machines. I have a Honda myself and love Suzuki's Yamaha's and Kawi's. Anything under 400lbs with 100 plus HP will be a whole lotta fun.
