OT: Why racing and why mustangs?!!?!?

I've been meaning to ask everyone this question just for kicks. Besides it being a hobby, why do we race and why are we so loyal to mustangs :D

Cons of racing if not careful = tickets, accidents, bust up car
Cons of owning a mustang = higher insurance, never finish modding, a lot of
money to maintain if raced.

Pros of racing if careful = bragging rights, adrenaline rush, uhmm... :shrug:
Pros of owning a mustang = nicest looking sport car(to me :hail2: ), pick up
girls(if not married :bang: )

When you think of it logically, only insane people do what we do. I don't care call me insane, I love mustangs and racing carefully and noone will ever change my mind. But why do you all do it besides it being a hobby? And like I said before, mustangs are the most beautiful sports cars (under $40,000) and the cheapest to mod. That's why I do what I do, why do you?

Unfortunately, for my generation, (I'm 20), the mustang is one of the last muscle cars. Not sports cars, thats something different. As of this year all we have left are Stangs, Lightnings, GTOs (look ugly as sin but still count), Vipers (kinda out of the price range but still counts), Corvettes, and RAM srt-10s. Can anyone think of another muscle car? And by muscle car I mean gobs of torque, almost as much horse power, decent handling, and who the hell cares about gas mileage. Thats why I drive a Mustang.

If you just race at the drag strip then you lower the value of the cons you listed above.

I don't know what kind of insurance you all have, but for the last 3 years the insurance rates for my 95 Mustang GT were the same as my (and wifes) 95 Honda civic.

I just like the fact that I can buy a car and mod it for less then $10,000, and outrun cars that cost over 3 times as much.

Mustangs are cheaper.... that's my reason. Please note the "ER" on the end of that word though. LOL

Camaros are too LONG if you ask me, plus their insurance is too damn much. They are just expensive all the way around.

Personally I've wanted to be a race car driver my whole life. Every time I've saved up the money for a nice car, something bad has happened and taken the money from me. After I got married I learned that I would NEVER reach my dream no matter how much I worked for it. My Ex was selfish and this car lover was trapped in a FESTIVA for 4 years. After the long and expensive divorce, I picked up my daughter on Friday in the FESTIVA like usual and got my EX to finally sign over the title (joint names) :bang:

I took my daughter back in my stang. :nice: I had decided that I was never going to be in a better position to justify a nice car. Starting that whole dating thing again was scary, the stang helped alot. ;)

I didn't start modding the car til I moved to Pittsburg, KS which introduced me to a new breed of teens that smoked my poor stock stang at every traffic light. The reason for the new breed is www.mokandragway.com was a 15 minute drive for everyone. :spot: Thus all the fast cars....

When the tranny went.... it got rebuilt and I had the gears installed. That's when the modding began. And it'll probably never stop. :D It actually stopped once, but then I started www.100mphclub.com and my mods started rolling in again. The originator can't be the slowest guy in the club. :p That's when the juice came about. The cheapest way to get into the 13s. I'm still not fast, but for a stock motor I'm satisfied. I can't wait to change the motor..... well I can wait as I'm low on funds - but if it pops - WE ALWAYS FIND A WAY! :jester:

I have always liked Mustangs, but no more than anyone else. Then one day I saw a '94 GT (now mine) in the classifieds with 38,000 miles for only $7,500. I couldn't pass that deal up. I bought it and drove it around for a while stock and then decided to buy new wheels to make it look better. I should have just bought some sticky tires and spent the rest on some heads. Oh well, live and learn. I have had it for a little over a year (bought last May) and my Mustang has taught me more about cars, their mods, and how the help/hurt. I only wish I had some Mustang guys to hang out with. The only Mustangs around here are either stock GT's or V-6's. I have to hang out with me friends with old hot rods. I do have a friend though with a SC Saleen so that is cool. Too bad he can smoke me! :D I too don't plan on selling it as it is paid off and I have a second vehicle that is paid off too that I drive. Hell, I haven't driven the GT in two weeks. :bang: Since I am taking my time with the GT I can save up (slowly but surely) for what I really want, the first time around. Currently, I have all the common mods: intake, pulleys, exhaust, gears but I am tired of screwing around. I plan on dropping in a forged 306 or 331 (I am so close to being able to afford it, it isn't even funny) and getting a suspension package from either Griggs or Maximum Motorsports. Then I'll be cooking with gas. :flag:

Another reason for driving a Mustang is plenty of leg room. At 6'4 I've had a '91, '97, and now my '02 Mustang and never felt cramped in any of them. I've driven two different models of Camaros and couldn't wait to get out of both because they were so cramped.

I just love the fact that I can work on the car myself, in my garage with my tools. I pop the hood on any 4 cyclinder and the whole engine is turned sideways and upsidedown WTF! I love my car and I love the torque. Nothing like being able to smoke the tires down the whole damn street. Personally I am an adrenaline junky. Got a CBR sportbike too and I cant decide which one I love more. Going to the track for me is a stress reliever when your lined up at the tree nothing matters but task at hand. I can go to the track and see how much of an improvment I have made since my last time out and it gives me a great feeling of accomplishment to drop time off my et. Knowing that I did it, my time, my effort, my money. What else can I say.......there's just something about Mustangs that's got me hooked!

I chose Mustangs for the same reasons everyone else has already listed, but one that hasn't come up that really sealed the deal for me was how much faster Mustangs feel than other cars. My stock 94 GT feels faster (to me at least) than my friends souped up LT1 Trans Am. :nice: :flag:

I dunno maybe it's just me but I really think the feel of Mustangs is alot better than most cars out there.

thats wierd cause i saw the same thing to my parents..also mustangs are the poor mans race car and nothing sounds better than a 5.0 imo

because its a Mustang!....the legend, the original pony car....been produced non-stop since 64...its American through and through, you dont get much more American, than a relativly cheap 2 door with a V8 under the hood....there is just something about driving one....i know you guys know whatim talking about....cruise around and ya know....your in a MUSTANG...dont get much better if you ask me....


....oh and btw...fbodies have a big lump in the floor....even FORD engineers could have designed that better...oh wait they did! :nice:
