I bought this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=120328582050 oval air cleaner. I paid 85 for it so i thought it was a good deal. I havent bought a distributor yet. Its a 91 ho motor. Do i need a special distributor cause of the fact that this air cleaner hangs over where the distributor is. I have a computer distributor that came with the motor in the spot now and it does not fit on the carb what so ever. I currently have a holley 780 carb on it with a 1/2 or 3/4 spacer on a 84 4 barrel manifold. Im definitely not gonna run this carb so dont freak out. Im gonna run a 600. Im just curious to clearance issues with the distributor and hood.

I have a stock distributor, and there's plenty of clearance. An HEI would be a mistake, and I'm not sure a Duraspark will fit, either. Any traditional (Mallory, Autolite, Accel) style distributor should do.

I have a 95 HO from an Explorer in mine running a 600 Edelbrock. Check my avatar. That is a stock 86 Mustang distributor and spark box. I don't know if you can tell from that pic or even an enlarged one, but maybe it will help.

I'm running a repop 3x2 intake with the factory oval aircleaner assembly. It fits fine over a factory Duraspark distributor with the large EFI post type cap. I've even made a new base plate to reverse the top to gain clearance in the rear for both my 77 Comet now and before when the motor was in my 89 Ranger. K&N makes filters for it too, I've got both the stock height (1.75") and a 3" filter for it.

I run an oval Edelbrock air cleaner w/ an HEI distributor. I use a 1/2" phenalic (sp?) spacer and 1/2" air cleaner spacer to clear it but also have an open hood scoop to give me extra under hood clearance. The air cleaner just clears the dist so I don't think it would work unless you have additional hood clearance or a thinner air cleaner. Mines about 2 1/2" tall.

The ebay link you posted won't load for me, so I can't see the part. However, I have a 14" round air cleaner, and it barely fits with my wide cap.

I have a round air cleaner with a Pertronix distributor and I don't see how an oval one would clear. It looks similar to the picture just in the last post.

I got an offset base from a local speed shop so I can run a HIPO air cleaner with the HEI distributer. It looks like it will fit fine but I havn't actually put it on yet.

Like this:

1/2" phenalic spacer and 1/2" air cleaner spacer just misses the dist. The Edelbrock oval is smaller than a Cobra oval but a little taller, I believe.
