Hi. I have a lincoln mark 8 fan.... haven't hooked it up the way I want yet but it is currently hooked up so that it turns on full when I turn on the car.... The car is idling too high.... but I'll leave that for my other posts... with the fan running all the time... just sitting in my garage the temp gauge is about 3/4 of the way up. I think 200 degrees is about half way... I still have the original 2 row rad.. Do you think I need a larger rad.. or is my 180 degree thermostate cycling too often... and not giving the fan enough time to cool off the fluid... Just running with water because I just put the fan in. Do you think I should put the 192 thermostate in too give the fan a chance to cool off the fluid before it cycles... maybe it is cycling too often with the 180.. I have read almost everywhere that the lincoln mark 8 fan is one of the best fans around?? Strange.... My car is idling awfully high... but like I said I will keep that for my other posts... Any ideas about the overheating?

Ok run a 180 Thermo stat. Your factory temp gauge is horrible. Get yourself a mechanical gauge. The you know what you are actually at. Running stricly water does not help matters. If you are going to run water atleast put some water wetter in it or purple ice. That should help bring down the temp of the car. Make sure your rad is clean aswell. Dust can clog the fins up and the amount of air being drawn through it gets to be less.

I agree about the need for a real gauge.

The water is not the issue (water rejects heat 2.6 times better than E/G coolant).

The thermostat cycling is not an issue.

Good luck.

Absolutely get a mechanical guage, and make sure your radiator is clean inside,
and out. Did the guage just go up when you put the new fan in?

Maybe your idle being to high is a vacuum leak.

Good luck to you.
