p.i. swap difference?

I have a couple of questions about doing a p.i. swap on a 96 GT:

- am i better off buying the parkway performance complete p.i. swap kit ($1350), or buying all of the pieces seperate (it should be alot cheaper).

- I have around $2k to spend on my bone stock 96 GT. it is a dd and i dont want to spray it. I just want to go faster, and have fun doing it.

- If i buy the pieces seperate, i should be able to budget in some aftermarket cams. are the cams worth the money, and if so what kind?

- if i go with a stock p.i. swap, will i need to tune it afterwards. That should run me an additional $400.

any help would be awesome. thanks.
 
The most expensive piece of what you want to do, I say, would be the aftermarket cams. They'll cost you 1/4 of what you're looking to spend.

You can find used heads for $200, intake for $230 or so, then just buy the actual headswap gasket kit w/ bolts, etc.

Another big Q to answer is will you be doing the install yourself? If not, I doubt you can even get the PI headswap then..
 
Personally, I've always been a little nervous about buying used parts and then just throwing them on. I like to give everything a thorough going over before installing anything used. If you do go that route, you should at least have them checked out by an engine rebuilding shop if your not able to yourself.

That's why i went parkway :D saving $800 bucks vs. bolting everyone on to find a cracked head...
 
Another question you should ask yourself is, are the power levels of a N/A PI swapped car going to be enough for you later down the road? If not, then you'd better be alright with the nitrous route, since going with a blower/turbo and a 10.4:1 compression ratio (which is what you'll get after the swap) is what you're going to end up with.

That being said, if you plan on really making power, you'll have to pull the heads off and build the short block anyway, in which case you could in fact swap out to lower compression pistons. But you should be easily able to run 400-420+hp without having to do that.....but not with a headswapped compression ratio.
