So, my paint sucks on my car, and based on current finances, it looks like it might be a year or more before I can do anything about it.

Question 1: My paint seems to be losing the top layer here and there. The best way I can explain this is lt seems that there is a layer of shiny red paint that is coming off in spots and underneath, is a layer of nasty red paint. Is there any sort of clear glossy spray type of coating that I can spray on the paint to help stop these spots.

Question 2: If I take it to macco and have em just give it a "once over" like the cheapest possible paint job, how long until it will be looking like crap again.

In the future, I plan to sand, fill and prime myself and take it to a real shop for a few grand and get it done right, but in the meantime are the two other options I mentioned viable?

I know everyone has a standard of how they feel their vehicle should look when they drive it, but honestly since youre looking for opinions Id say wait and do it once and do it right. The maaco paint can look fantastic if the prep is good, but to just run it in for a quickie is a waste of money and its only going to make 1 more thick layer of enamel that youre going to have to remove when the time comes to do it right..If youre looking to just spruce up those crappy spots with clear, I found an aerosol clear at the local autobody supplier called jammin clear, its for small jobs like door jambs and small repairs, it leaves a nice finish and is as simple as it gets..Im sure there are other brands out there that do the same thing..ask around localy.

Sounds like it's basecoat/clearcoat and the clear coat is coming off.

Oh, and try about 16 years and counting before I can do anything about my crappy paint job.
