So I have recently decided to start doing some appearance mods to my 2001 silver stang...finally! In addition to lowering my vehice and doing a mach 1 grill delete...i'm thinking about a black/polished bullitt fuel door and painting my stock bullitts black...leaving the outer lip polished aluminum. I found a cool little vid on autohow.tv on this, and the author said that normal painted wheels just need washed, sanded, washed again and then you can start the painting process. Is the prep process really this simple? Has anyone on here done this? What about painting the brake calipers? I think that would compliment the wheels! suggestions? ideas? I'm poor so I gotta keep it inexpensive!

I have some knock off cobras, the chrome is pitting and starting to peel. I was thinking of trying to pain them, but not if you have to sand blast all the chrome. I wonder if the process is the same to paint over chrome?

Awesome! That gives me hope....btw I love your stang! same color as mine and you have a very similar look to what I'm aiming for! Not to get off topic...what kinda springs/suspension setup do you have? Your car is quite low!

I just had my DD bullits painted Arizona Beige to match the fronts, sent them to a body shop. They turned out alot better than if I were to have spray painted them.

They look good! What should I expect to spend if I go with a shop? I like the idea of d.i.y but the most important thing is that it's done right..

Thank you, I can't wait to get them on the car! I agree on the DIY theory, if I can do it myself why pay someone to do it, but in this case I left it up to the pro's that do this every day. I had a local collision shop paint them and it was $250 for both.

Since you want black I would do it myself. Flat black is a very forgiving color.
It dries fast and doesnt run if your careful. When you hit it with clear it will
look like gloss black. But like someone said its the prep work that is critical.
