Does anyone know of a way to adjust the parking brake on my 95 Cobra. The handle goes all the way to the top and the brake bearly engagesbut wont hold the car on the slightest hill. The pads seem fine. I removed the console and the cable is fine to the "T" and the L and R cables to the calipers seem fine. I see no way of adjusting the cable. Any help would be appreciated. All I can think of is cable stretch which is not usually an issue.

the parking brake on it is self adjusting. the spring-loaded ratcheting mechanism on the brake lever automatically take up the slack as the cables stretch, so the cable is not supposed to be adjusted. Sounds like a hard fault somewhere.

btw, is this a black cobra?

I figured it was probably the ratcheting system. Do I know you kj2833? I am in So IL. And yes, the car is a black Cobra. Do you know something about the sale of this car? I hope you don't.

Yes it is two cars welded together, I did it myself

This is kevin - green rag top

So i am talking to chris correct? the license plate errr stang net name gave it away.

Sounds nutty I know but try going about 10mph or so in reverse and yanking up on the E brake. Mine was not that tight and this seemed to help? (somes car adjust this way) I'm not sure if this fixed it or it was some other stuff I did at the same time. My car still needs to be tighter on the brake thou..

That is actually how to reset the e-brake. I had to do this on my Focus a few times, and I did it to my GT every 15k or so. Works like a charm. Might have to do it more than once.

I pulled the adjuster/handle assy last night and it was extremely loose. No matter what I did, I could not get it to adjust. the assy just wobbled. So I went to 50resto.com and ordered a new one. Hopefully this will cinch up the cable right. I hate not having a parking brake and it has been that way for about 9 months and drives me crazy. Last problem to fix, Yeah!

:nice:

There's a recall on the E-brake.. the previous owner told me about it and gave me the mailer he recieved from Ford. My e-brake wouldnt engage at all. I took it to the dealer today and they had to order parts but its a free fix!

Recall Number and Description: 00S37 - Park Brake Control Assembly

The recall letter was from 2002 but they still accepted it.
