i bought my car about 6 months ago and when i got it the parking brake didn't work so i took the center console out and checked the cable. all i found was a piece of cable attachedto the leaver. but i don't know how to go about this i have the cable but i don't know how to install it. can anyone help me out?

That one cable attached to the lever goes to an equalizer bar, which is attached to the 2 cables that go the the respective left and right rear drums. If you crawl under the car you will see where the 3 cables attach. What does the cable you bought look like? The earlier fox bodies had nuts with which you could adjust tension, and also, I assume change either of the left and right rear cables independantly from the one attached to the lever. Not sure how it is on your year car.

this is what the cable looks like. 1988 GT

Ah, I think then, you can just unscrew the old cable from the equalizer, unhook the cable from the rear drums (yes, you have to pull it apart), run the new cable through the cable tubes, and reattach the cable. Some guys who have better info will surely give more info. I would suggest you go get a shop manual, as it will tell your exactly what you need to do. GL
