people running 9 in. tires/flipped quad shocks

What size tires are you running?

His is an 87, yours is a 93. 90+ got the larger wheel wells.

i ran 17x8.5 (255 tire) on my 90 GT vert, no issues

I got 275s on my '89 LX and all I needed to do was put on some 1/4" wheel spacers and I have no rubbing at all. Quads or tails.

I'm sure you noticed that the "nut" is welded in, so it's not coming off. The bolt goes in from the back side and threads into that nut. Mine had the same thing, I tried WD-40, a propane torch and 120psi of compressed air...none of them worked.

What did work for me is this:

I got some PB Blaster - it seems to be better than WD-40. I sprayed the PB blaster on there and let it sit for 5-10 min. Spray it again and get a ratchet and a deep socket so that the ratchet will sit far enough away from the bolt to clear the shock. Now, I used a 15" cheater bar over my ratchet and (make sure you turn the correct way) I put some muscle into it. Got them both off. I think mine fit better with them how they originally were (15x10 draglites w/ 275/60 goodyear wingfoot tires). Mine is a 91 and I also used 1/4 spacers.

Ive been thinking of buying some 17 x 9 2003 cobra wheels for my car but after reading this im not sure if they will fit since its a 88 ;/

Tailpipes are not a big deal -- they can be adjusted. The important part is that the hard stuff is not in the way.

I had 17x9 Cobra Rs with 275/40s out back, and they didnt rub anything ever.

I currently am running 15x10 Draglites with 275/60s and although under compression they rub, the quads and tailpipes dont pose an issue! I have heard stories of not fitting but I didnt seem to have an issue with my 17x9s!

i run 17x9 cobras with either 235 or 245/40's and the back is no problem.
