Okay, what did you have to do to make your parking brake work?

I have a Baer setup, and it seems to be completely incompatible with my stock parking brake cables (which I removed for now).

The stock drum parking brake cable entered the drum at approx. a 45 deg angle; the Baer parking brake assy requires a direct pull, as in parallel to the axle.

Baer recommended a company which makes replacement parking brake cables, but the cable would still have to be mounted somehow......

Anyone have ideas (other than taking the car to a brake shop)??

Thanks........and Happy Monday :bang:

I have the SSBC setup on the rear of my '68...I will try to take some photos this evening of how my mechanic fabbed my parking brake using the stock cables.

Thanks Kelton. Do you know off the top of your head the general configuration of the parking brake assy on the SSBCs? I think I saw a photo once where the SSBC cable assy attaches in much the same manner as the stock drum brakes, which I cannot do with my Baer setup.

It is totally different than the drum setup on my '65. There is a lever at the top of the caliper that gets pulled forward when the handle is pulled.

The pictures will help alot I think...basically we turned the rear cables around so the ends were reveresed to the center lever and the caliper.

Okay. On your calipers the lever is pulled forward towards the front of the car? On mine, it seems like the lever is pulled toward the centerline of the car...so the brake cables would have to run down the centerline of the car, and make a 90 deg turn straight to the calipers.

Thanks for your help, and if you can send me pics later, I'd appreciate that.

i went out and snapped this pic for you.

this is the cable i got from baer, $90 for the set. you might not have this choice for yours though, not sure if 69 and 67 are same in this respect.

Thanks, Eric. That looks like exactly what I need. You bought it directly from Baer?? I was told that I would have to have one made. Do you have a part # for that?

and BTW, I'll have some pics for you soon.

:nice:
