Hey I've decided instead of buying rims to just go ahead and save up for the full PI swap. I'm thinking about getting VT or Comp stg. 1 cams and swap them into the heads. Might as well since the heads will be out of the car. My question is this: Are the stock springs ok to use or will I need to buy performance springs? Also, are there any other little parts I will need that I should know about? I'm planning on buying everything for the swap piece by piece and then having it all installed by the beginning of summer next year.

if you are going stage one cams then you dont HAVE to change the springs, but it could not hurt if you decided to. you should be able to run the stockers with no problems. the spring upgrade usually comes in with the stage 2s and better.

I am doing the same thing......But i am going to go with either stage 2 or maybe even stage 3 comp. cams......so IMO save a lil longer and get a bigger cams and new springs........I should have enough saved up by May A lil at a time

Well we'll see how much I have come spring. If I have enough for the pi parts, cams and springs I'll do it. But I may just end up having only enough for the PI parts. I'm going to visit a friend in Cinci. in a couple of weeks, and while I'm there, I'm going to stop in at Modular Depot and see what they charge to do the swap. My friend up there knows a guy that apparently will P&P the pi head for me for free, just because he loves working on stangs so much. He'll atleast give me a good deal to do it. I'd like to have 300 hp to the crank after this swap, and I think a P&P job and performance cams should just about get me there.

just so you know, when deciding on the cams, the stage 1 will give you more low end power then stage 2 or 3. the bigger the cam, the higher peak power will be, but you will lose more low end torque.

i have a bit more then 300 at the crank with p&p heads and stage 1 blower cams. you can see my other mods to judge, i didnt see what else you have done.
you could gain more then me from the swap because of you higher compression and going with n/a cams. ( i went with blower cams/ lost a little)

i will tell you that just from the ported pi heads and the stage 1 cams im very happy with power output. my peak #' arent huge, but i didnt lose power on the dyno anywhere in the rmp range.

i actually gained rwhp and rwtq from 3200 rpm and all the way up. this will not happen with stage 2 cams. they wont start gaining till higher in the rpm.

at 5500 rpm i gained 43 rwhp and 41 rwtq

at 5900 rpm i gained 48 rwhp and 44 rwtq.

If you want to get maximum value for your dollar, the PI intake and PI cams are a nice mod for the money and good for at least 30 extra horses. The stock tune will work great and the cams can be installed fairly fast with a cam changing tool. I bought used 2003 PI cams for $75 and a new PI intake for $160 thru ebay and Stangnet classifieds. That is almost the price of a K&N FIPK alone! The mods have been working fine so far.

this guys idea is very good! perfect for those on a budget. You don't need PI heads. Take your heads off your car and send them over to VA to www.steenracing.com and have jason steen p&p them put in PI valves etc. get new cams, PI intake. Cheaper then getting full PI swap then P&P'ing them. And you will still be @ the same hp as PI.

my cams are a custom grind from fox lake. my peak numbers were only 35 rwhp and 21 rwtq, but like i said everywhere else in the power band is where i was impressed with them. the dyno improvements are also for the stage 2 p&p heads.

Well I wouldn't mind doing that except it's my DD. I can't be w/o a car for that long. BUT I am considering buying a 2nd set of NPI heads and doing that with them. But wouldn't P&P'd pi heads be better than P&P'd npi heads? No matter which way I go, I'm gonna have to buy a 2nd set of heads.

ADRENLN, do you still have those heads and cams that are in your sig? It Will probably be late December/early January before I start buying all the parts and really planning this out so if you still have them I might be interested. The reason I want to do PI heads is because 1. I have to buy a 2nd pair of heads anyway and 2. If I CAN'T afford a P&P job, atleast I will still get a gain and I'm still hopefully getting stg. 1 cams.
