i have the performer intake, 1.7's already, and i was gonna get the pedestal mount heads so that i can save money on having to buy new rockers....I was planning on having tom port the lower when it comes time.....

Not really shooting for certain dyno numbers, but with good driving and the numbers i want it should hit twelves(that is my thinking anyhow)

Grady, i think that the difference between those two graphs(gap if you will) could be made up by the edelbrocks having a custom cam as the AFR's did in that graph..... what do you think.

Wheneve ri have the cam done, i am gonna tell the grinder i want it idle (slightly higher LCA than the off the shelf cams) but i am gonna get the power out of it....lol even if i suffer slight driveability, a little jerky or whatever...... hell the car is that now, and i love it.... thats just with my b-cam....

I appreciate the comparison..... BTW>.. is there anyway you can let me get that excell file.... or maybe a pic as above with more combos on it.. I would appreciate it....

Nope. I couldn't care if it puts down 270 RWHP or 340. The car runs very strong. The camshaft in the car is a bit wild for the street so it does have a few driveability issues that need tuned out of it.

I don't want dyno numbers because that's not what a built the car for. Whatever you tune on the dyno is not going to be the "optimal" running condition of the car at the track. Over and over again, I've been told by tons of people that whatever fuel pressure (or jets in a carburetor), you run, it's always going to like more fuel at the track.

To me, if I want the car to run good at the track, I'll tune it in it's environment - not in some shed with a fan shoved in the nose.

Haha. I guess I did come across a little snappy - I didn't mean to. Sorry if that did show through. I was in a hurry to type and I just threw down whatever came to mind.

One would think the custom cam would at least close up the gap some, if not all.

IMHO, one of the biggest advantages of a custom cam is having the ability to tell your cam guy where your focus is on the combo.

Example: I told Ed my car was all about the street and I wanted a tq curve that came on early and was broad to the red line.

Did you see the post above where I talked about doing it all over again?

What ever results I have achieved at this point in time and "if I was to do it all over again" would not be possible with a custom tune.

Jason, if you are gonna try and build this combo without a tune ...
Very Most Likely ...... Power is gonna be left on the table and drivability will become an issue.

One can't have his cake and eat it too in this matter
because
When one makes his decisions based upon his pcm not freaking
then
One has to settle for less power to achieve drivability

You said you want 300+ rwhp and the goal I have in mind is in the 325 to 350rwhp range.

btw ... Did you notice both of these combos have custom tunes?

one last thing Jason

Low LSA's causing idle issues is nothing but Internet Myth for peeps who Custom Tune.

You might find it interesting to know I have found Low LSA's in quite a few combos that produce dyno curves which I think are impressive.

I don't in any way claim to understand a whole lot about cam specs or cam timing events and such
but
I do find it interesting that Low LSA's are common in those combos.

good info and thanks for the help, i however do believe you misunderstood my point, the car will have a dyno tune, that will be the main reason i take to the dyno this time, i currently have a mail order chip and i am not happy with it at all...... I think i get the combo running, broke in around 1k miles of easy driving, and then it will see the dyno.....

I have learned the lessons with my car..... I guess i could say it has taught me what it does and doesn't like! lol

once again thank you for your input help and time as well as everyone else who is contributing to this thread..
