I have a 1996 Gt 5 speed. I did the pi intake swap, & now I'm about to do the head swap. I bought a set of heads & everyone said to go ahead & do the cams while I'm at it. So, I found a good deal on a set of Comp 270 cams w/springs. I know I'm going to have to degree them. I had a guy mention that I might not pass emissions, with the cams. Failing emissions is not an option. Does anyone know if this set up will work for me. I know these aren't the best cams for me, but I get the whole setup for $500. After the heads & cams, I would be looking to do gears, & eventually long tubes, but that would be a little while. That's about as far as I'd go with this. Does anyone know if I might fail emissions in Ga. .....the car has 55k miles, if that matters.

People have passed in CA with comp 262 cams. If GA emissions are looser than CA you've got a good chance of passing. Just make sure all your emission equipment if working good.

I know Ga. emission isn't as tight as Calif., would the difference from 262's to 270's make that much difference?

Yes, the difference is 8 degrees on intake and exhaust. overlap goes from 2 degrees to 10 degrees.

As long as you keep your engine lite off, you should have know problems with the new OB2 inspections. They plug it in and as long as there's been no engine lite on within the last 50-100 miles you should be ok. At least that's how it is in North Carolina.
