PI Manifold/Cam swap Questions

Let me start off by saying that the search button has been my best friend for the past couple days and i've found quite a few articles relating to the topic at hand. On that note, there are a few questions that i'm still a little iffy on and would rather risk getting flamed for asking a question that might already be answered than to not ask and totally eff up my car...

1) In this picture, is the circled yellow area the part that is supposed to be tapped for the 2nd coolant sensor and is it just supposed to be tapped to the exact same specs as the one the arrow points to?

2) Am I supposed to reuse the gasket from the stock manifold (as well as the Valve covers) and then just use BLACK RTV to seal up the areas that need to be sealed on the PI manifold or should I be getting new gaskets? Also does it matter what RTV color i use? I just bought blue/red RTV and believe we have black so i'm set, just don't know what type to use where...Red on the Valve Cover and black or blue on the manifold?

3) In Hotmustangs VT cam install thread he talks about cam bolts needing to be replaced or something...is that an issue with a PI cam swap or should it just be a "pull the old cam out put the new one in and bolt everything back up" situation?

I'll probably be comming up with other questions as I think along this so please bear with me on this lol. Alls i'm waiting on is for the cams to arrive and for a free weekend to happen and i'll be doing the swap...and of course I have to get my hands on a Haynes manual.

Thanks!! :SNSign:

1)yes
2) Use the PI intake gaskets and keep everything else the same. Use minimal black RTV to get the final seal
3)Some modular cams use a press on cam gear and some use a bolt on. Just use whatever comes with the new cams(the pressed on gears don't really come off so they'll be included) or buy new gears and bolts from Ford if they're the bolt on type.

Alright round 2 of questions then....

1) Are the PI gaskets absolutely necessary or will NPI gaskets work on the intake manifold? Reason I ask is because I was stupid and didn't look at the packaging on the gaskets I ordered, then once I ripped it all apart I saw the "95-98 4.6 280CI" sticker...

2) I didn't get cam gears with the cams. This is all I have...

Here is the cam itself http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/Dusstbuster/Cam2.jpg

and here is my cache...

Maybe jason could chime in too and lend some info :D

I did the PI cam and intake swap. This is what I learned. Most guys use the PI gaskets, I used both since I used adapter plates. The NPI gaskets require more RTV sealant in some places I am not sure where. I recommend the PI gaskets since they require less RTV, (just near the water ports)

You don't need new gears for the cams. You just use the NPI gears AND washers off the old cam and bolt them onto the new PI cam using the NPI bolts. If you use the Anderson tool the cam swap is fairly simple. BTW, the valve cover gaskets are re-usable if you are careful with them.

Thanks mel! I guess i'll be spending another 20 on PI gaskets now haha.
