pinging on medium grade octane?

Hey all, my car is mostly stock and the problem is I ping on plus and regular octane at high rpms. However, when I use 93 octane the car runs much smoother and no pinging problems.. is this normal?

Where the timing set at? It sound like the timing has been advanced back the timing to 10* then you can run 89*.

Is this a recent thing or always been this way? If it's recent, I bet your plugs are warn some.

Drop the timing and/or gap your plugs less.

Try cleaning your MAF. Cheap & easy fix for common problems.

Here is a link. Use CDC electrical cleaner instead of carb cleaner or alcohol. The CDC doesn't leave a residue behind. Apply it with the q-tip, and dry it with another.

T-20 saftey torx to remove the MAF out of the housing.

the timing is set stock... I will try to clean out the maf.
