ok, I posted this in response form in another thread but I need help too!

I am prolly going to buy another 5.0 (poss a 4-cyl) and just transfer my whole power train in to the new car along with a few extras (rims and such) and then junk the other car. I have the pink slip but the guy signed it in the wrong place so it basically says he has a lein on it when I paid the guy. Long story short, dude left, cant find him, DMV says to find him and have him notarize a bill of sale.... Yeah been looking for him and cant find him... so looks like I have to buy another body/donor car.... not sure how I can junk the old body though. dont think a junk yard will take it without a pink slip... any suggestions??? anyone???

cut it up and take it to a secondary metals (recycling) they'll give you so much per ton which yea you won't get much but you can get rid of the car that way. sell all of the parts you can like interior and body panels and such then scrap the rest.

some states you can also file for an abondonment title also.......by placeing an ad in the paper addressing it to owner, running the ad for a set time frame.
should be able to get all the info you need from the dmv.
I purchased a 69 el camino SS with similar results and didnt have it road ready for five years later, by that time my bill of sale had dissapeared and was forced to go the route i mentioned....worth looking into!

then as a last result, can also be obtained with a salvage title. vehicle loses resale value then though.
but there are ways of getting it done.
just have to inquire about them at dmv.

Hmmm, for the salvage title wouldnt someone have had to register it as such, or wouldnt i need to get it from a salvage yard??? and for the abandonment I think that the dmv then takes possesion of the car. I am in hawaii, I asked them if there was any other way to do it and they responded with a big "NO" but I will call and ask about those situations. I really dont wanna put the work into swapping it esp since i just got it running... thanks

Id just create a bill of sale, as long as the previous owner isnt tryin to screw you on the car, no one will ever question it. Or have a credit agency run a skip trace on the guy to track him down.Unless the car is a POS, if thats the case, striip it and dump it on a side street somewhere, its not in your name.

Most places there is a procedure for this. Here, you start with Magistrates Court. Basicly, you attempt to notify the last registered owner by registered mail, etc, giving them the opportunity to compensate you for the costs you have incurred in storing, servicing, etc, their vehicle. If they do not respond, either by paying you, or providing a proper title, then you post the vehicle for public auction, so that you can recover whatever costs you have in storing their vehicle. At auction time, the judge comes to the vehicle and takes the high bidder. You put a minimum price so that either no one shows up, and you get the vehicle, or you get a reasonable sum. Either you or the winning bidder then gets a title to the car. Then you can register it, etc.

Called a mechanics lien in some formats, or a salvage title procedure depending on the place and the procedure you use. Works good for just this situation. Cost $40 for my $50 car.

Hmm, well the car isnt all that great to be honest. I paid $800 for it and just put in a new clutch, flowmaster exhaust, summit h-pipe, and headman headers. I put into the car pretty much what I paid for it. It has a sunroof, 5 spd 120+k on it. Not clean by any means. Body needs paint and some ground effects work (GT).I am prolly going to part out the car cept for the parts I want to put in a new fox body. there is a fox body i found that has no engine, no tranny, and no hood. it was an auto and i have a 5 spd. I also do not know if it is speed density or mass air.... is there a way to check that? I dont think it matters since i have my complete car with mass air so I could just switch all the wiring but i am looking at saving a little bit of time.
