First off happy new year to everyone. I tried searching for this but couldn't find the answer.

OK I installed the 3g alt in my 89 lx, did the wiring correct checked it out and it was charging fine. Then my gauge starts jumping up and down, so I figured undedrive pulleys at idle is the prob.

So I take a drive and the gauge is still doing the same thing flickering the bat light, then all of a sudden the gauge drops and battery light stays on solid. I go back home and start rechecking everything and find my old left over plugs wound up on the header and melted.

I've checked all the fusible links for continuity and they check out. I've checked everything I can think of and still no luck. Please help I'm lost at this point, I resurched and some people say to clip the plugs others say keep and don't mangle, well mine are pretty mangled.

What do I do next???

Thanks and sorry for the rambling but I'm very frustrated at this point and couldn't sleep thinking about it.

Take a look at the white (field wire) wire and ensure it is secure.

When you say that you wired it correctly, what does that mean? How exactly did you wire it?

I ran a 4gauge wire to the positive side of the solinoid and plugged in the connectors made a spade connection to the white wire and it tight and secure.

Any ideas?

I just did a 3G install a week or two ago, and have had no problems. (yet)

However going by that first link/picture I dont have that yellow wire going from the plug harness over to 4 gauge wire side? Is this a must to do? I dont remember reading anything about a yellow wire going to that side?
If you left the OEM charge wires connected to the solenoid, you did not need to make that loop.
