My buddy has a 1998 Mustang, 3.8l and he just came out of Wal-Mart at 2:am this morning and it won't start. When he turns the key the starter turns over. I had him check the fuel shut off and its fine. He said it does a diagnostic blink of 1 blink, then a pause, then 4 blinks. He can here the fuel pump humming when he first turns the key, so I don't think its that. But its turning over so I don't understand why its not starting,

any help would be awesome cause he's f*#%ing stuck in a parking lot in St. Paul right now, thanks

best guess is crank or cam position sensor. check for no spark, if none check coil for power. if coil is powered its probably crank position sensor failure. i think you can can do continuity test on them.
