I believe you need a pipe plug... i didnt think that a regular bolt would work.. but i am probably wrong.. i would try to find the right one just in case for some reason you ever decide to sell it... or you can take it to any wlder and do what dude above did.. i think thats what im doing as well.. ill neevr need it open since i have the carbinator
right now i still have a little bit of the rubber hose on the tube and i have a deep set lug nut in there with a hose clamp till my buddy can weld it up. works just fine for now
well that pipe is not threaded so finding a plug becomes more difficult. Just pinch the end and weld it like 5.0 con-vert said. If you ever want to hook it back up, you just have to cut the crushed tip off and hook it back up. An exhaust shop usually won't even charge you to weld it.
does it matter that the exhaust isnt getting out and going back through? when i replaced my engine i found that the smog pipe was clogged solid with black build up- i guess thats what 126000 miles will do. i figured it might do that to the heads because the pipe runs from the back of them- or does it not make a difference?
A short length of high-temp silicone hose with a 1/2" bolt shoved into the end and a hose clamp on both would be the simplest/easiest. Re-installing the smog junk for testing or whatever would only involve a flathead screwdriver, rather than having to weld up new stuff.
