Hi I'm current installing my Holly systematic intake manifold on my aluminum heads . For some reason my bolts keep snapping I torque the first set of bolts to 7lbs then I went to 14lbs and two of them snap . On my intake manual its says 22-24 lbs . I don't know what I'm doing wrong this is the first time I have done this if anyone can please help thanks .

I never ever torque intake bolts, I've seen plenty of guys strip heads and break bolts doing so. If they are tight they are tight in my opinion. I typically tighten the bolts by hand (ratchet) and check them after the motor has had a few heat cycles in it.

Did you ever have any over heating issues or any leaks ?

Never, I've had the intakes off of a few hundred of these cars without issue . I use a small amount of RTV on the water passages and "Right Stuff" on the front and back of the lower manifold

Are you using rusty bolts? Or maybe cheap Chinese imitation bolts?

Look at the bolt heads you should see at least a 3 pointed star like the Mercedes-Benz hood ornament. The 3 point star is a grade 5 bolt and is the minimum that I would use on anything automotive.

Use a tap or preferably a thread chaser to clean out the bolt holes. The threads on the bolts for the intake manifold are 5/16-18. Use lots of WD40 when you clean the threads, squirt as you turn. Use the red soda straw to squirt some WD40 in the bolt holes after you have run the thread chaser or tap through them to flush out any rust, dirt or scale you cut loose..

Homemade thread chaser - if you have one of the handheld small cutoff tools with a 3/32" or 1/16" thick wheel you can do this:

Make sure your torque wrench is right. It could be out of calibration and make sure you're setting the torque setting right as well

One to pcv, one to egr, third to the vacuum tree. You also need one for the fuel pressure regulator. Grab a y fitting.

The one in the front closer to the radiator run a hose to the pcv? Then the remaining outlets on the intake toward the firewall connected to fuel pressure regulator and egr? does it matter in the way I connected them ? Thanks again im a novice at those things and afraided I'll connected something wrong .

By any chance does any one of you have a picture of the set up? I have the pcv hose hook up already , I ran a hose from the front of the intake to the back of the pcv . I have the fuel regulator , egr , and valve cover breather left . Do I just connect them anywhere and plug off the ones I don't need ?I thought of doing this but don't want my car to have a roght idle . I'm sorry for all the questions I am a novice at all this , and can't seem to have a friend or anyone who can help me . Thanks for all the patience and help .
