So I have a friend trying to sell me some 69 351W D00E casting (?) heads. He seems to think they'll bolt on to my stock short block and says they're worth a good 40 - 50HP due to smaller combustion chambers. I don't think he's BSing me but before I think about buying (appaerntly I'm getting a good price) I was just curious if anyone here had any opinons about them or anything?

I think that they have bigger combustion chambers.I have the same heads and thet look larger than stock, aorund 64cc compared to 58cc for stock. But the runners are much bigger and flow consideralby more air and exhaust. They also have pressed in studs so you'll need different rockers.

D00E Specs:

60cc Chambers
1.84" Intake Valves
1.54" Exhaust Valves
Port Size: 1.94"x1.76" Intake
1.24"x1.00" Exhaust

The 69' Head's are definetly a good head especially if your thinking of throwing them on a mild 302. Bigger Valve's & Port's are one advantage & depending on the year of your 302 the combustion chamber will be smaller as well resulting in increased compression. They will bolt on to a 302 with the use of head bolt/stud bushing's. Insure and check piston to valve clearence as well.
If you cant afford aluminum head's, they are worth the money (Depending On What Kind Of Shape There In) if your getting a good price and yes upward's of a 35-40+HP gain souldn't be a problem.

They are not the best heads but are better than E7's! A possible 15hp gain from more compression but they still flow like crap. If I were you... I wouldnt even waste my money and time pulling apart the motor to throw stock heads back on it again... Call up Powerheads.com and get a set of their ported heads for $700 if ur on a budget.. Thats just me though..

15hp? That's seems a like a lil bit of low estimate....

Matters how much the heads are shaved but I'd say if they add 1/2-1 point of compression, 15-20 rwhp across the board is a safe guess... still not worth throwing stock heads back on imo. Maybe get someone to clean them up a little bit that knows what their doing. Than I'd say its a worthwhile modification!

ok a lil more info on the heads...they've been ported (intake and exhaust), a little bowl work done and have been decked roughly .010 and 2.02/1.94 (exhaust valve size may of been smaller couldn't remember exactly what he said)valves. Port work can be described as mild, I can tell they've been opened up a bit but not too much. Quality of port work looks good too..might be professional. So to restate the question, what kinda HP gain with the DO0Es ported and decked with a lil bowl work and larger valves?

BTW the casting # on the heads was D80E not DO0E...differant?

ive got a set of 71' 302 heads and they flow like hell, intake and exhaust have both been ported, bowl, runners, etc. And bigger valves installed, 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust. So they're definatly worth the while, i'd grab them and stick em' on and go, but you are going to need different rockers if they don't have screw in studs. If you have stock heads on your car right now, you will DEFINATLY feel the difference.
