Chip/tuner In addition to timming you can control air fuel ratio, adjust for gears/tranny/tire size, turn of rear o2's, adjust rev limiter, turn off traction control, ect. Basically you can manipulate almost anything electronic in your car.

Nope sorry, I'm never believing that again. I have no idea where people got that from. After I already had long tubes and Prochaber and all my other mods my numbers were at 262/297 which was repeatable. We exparamented to test the 1-2 rwhp gains theory on the same day and found that I got up to 7rwhp and 6rwtq with out stock muffs. My tuner did not touch my tune in between runs either. There is a small amount of power to be had there.
I would have purchased a catback years ago if I hadn't been listening to this 1-2 rwhp nonsense.
As far as I am concerned it has been dyno proven to me infront of my own eyes. Perhaps mustangs of different years had better flowing Muffs, mine apparently does not flow well.
That also explains why I have been seeing guys up by me having CAI, plenum&tb, tune, pullies, and catback making 250ish on the same dyno I use.

I'd be more likely to think it was error if it was on a different dyno and if we had been messing with air temps to skew results.

Last dyno before swapping to a mufflerless system
4/27/2006 11:08:49 AM Run Type RO Run Conditions: 74.48 F, 29.15 in-Hg, Humidity 7%, SAE 1.00
Max torque = 297.59 Max Power = 262.50
Dyno after I ditched fords poopy muffs
4/27/2006 11:18:32 AM Run Type RO Run Conditions: 75.32 F, 29.15 in-Hg, Humidity: 7%, SAE 1.00
Max torque = 303.45 Max Power = 269.29

your gains are most likely due to the other mods before it. On a stock GT is where the 1-3 HP #'s come from but when you add LT's and High Flow midpipe now the catback is the cork. This is why every mod will help eventually just not always as a stand alone mod.

Thats what I was starting to think. Thats also why I decided to keep my accufab plenum, it might give me more as I continue to mod.
Anyway, I have also now fallen into the pully crowd(trying to stay away from that 4:10 crowd). You 'should' see more hp from that at this point than a plenum TB combo. Be carefull though if you get powder coated ones you might wanna re torque them after a few miles while its still warm, I guess the coating expands.

Plenum/TB Worthless ?

Mike, I don't think plenum/TB is worthless, but it is a lot of $$ for a little gain. On my otherwise stock 01 Gt Vert,Auto I gained 2 tenths of a second with my Dragon Plenum with 75 MM TB along with a JLT RAI filter.
Best ET todate is 14.43
60' 2.1
MPH 95.7
That was with the Goodyear Factory tires.

01 GT Vert,Auto,Predator,JLT RAI, Dragon,75MM TB
Next is 4.10 gears

True it is a lot of money for a little gain. I'm trying to see if there is a HUGE difference between brands in terms of HP gains.

There are a few no-name plenums on Ebay for about $75 or so. WOndering if these are junk or worth a shot? Also tyring to see if porting the stock plenum is worth anything. Maybe i'll see if i can find a cheap used 70mm on ebay or the classifieds

WHo knows in the future i might upgrade the mid-pipe but as of right now i don't want to. I just want to do something go get a few extra HP.

Gladly

Here's what we got on our '04 GT.
It was stock, except for k&n worthless drop-in filter, so the gains are over the 0-1hp it gives.

Only 206HP to the wheels? I thought our cars were putting around 225HP to the ground stock?

Wow i thought you wer eleaving it stock. The mod bug gets everyone even you!!! I think the CAI is a way better investment than the TB/Plenum if your going to do anything. I felt the difference witht k&N FIPK and i would also think an xcal2 would be a better investment than a tb/plneum

Yeah i know. It's just that i spend the whole day at the track on Sat and you know how that is. Every time you go home you want to spend money to make it faster.

It depends on the car and DYno. I know a few dyno owners and they have dynoed stock Pi cars making as little as 200rwhp. and as high as 230 rwhp stock.
Now For your original question. If you have a plenum sitting around PORT it, where I worked at on mine was taking out the BIG bumps in the back and enlarging the whole thing making it as smooth a transition from the ROUND opening to the oval shaped exit.
Now me and some others have noticed most of the better prefroming plenums are also taller than a stock plenum, while we haven't tested it. Our theroy is the increase in the runner length (higher plenum) gives a slight increase so a Plenum spacer that is ported along with a port plenum may see higher gains than most would suspect.
Also I saw 1mph increase in te 1/8th with mine ported v a stock plenum. While that is not dramatic for a pretty much free mod I"ll take it.
For the same price I'd suggest headers Shorties since you wnat to use the stock midpipe.

Now a few things I've had and felt a difference.
Ported plenum slight increase in trap speed
Timing adjuster felt stronger and smoother slight drop in et's.
UD pullies were done the same time as Shortie headers together a 20rwhp increase.
Gears OH yeah could feel that.
OR pipes could feel them too. Have had prochamber, hpipe, xpipe.
catback really couldn't tell anything with it but do like the tone was a small drop in et.
Xcal2 Made the car SMOOTHER and really should have done it sooner.

Now if Plenum & TB is on your list and you have your mind set to buy them I suggest staying away from MAC I bought one and it gave me nothing but fits.
