Polishing Aluminum

So i have looked over the search about polishing aluminum and it says to basically start with a 120 grit, then slowly move up to a wet sanding at 400 then start polishing.. what is a good type of polish that i should use? to do my intake and alternator

Thanks for the help

i go higher on the paper, but thats just me. i go up to 600 or so, then go to a buffing wheel with white rouse"sp", then try mothers alum pollish ,then send onebad95 a pm and get his pollish you won't be disapointed

yea well i figured im going to stop playing video games and start up polishing my whole motor :-/ yea its alot of work but at least i get something out of it :D and this guy was telling me about burning the metal? is it easy to do when polishing?

YEAHLOH95 - i wasnt sure how far to go up but i dont want any deep lines in it so i may be going higher.

last time i checked this was stangnet, not polishingaluminum.com

Seriously, keep the crap limited to your thread as there is more than enough there and don't bring it into others.

On topic...

I'm not the polishing master that some of the other guys here are but I never start wet sanding with anything less than 320, then I move to 440, 600, 1000, and sometimes I'll do a quick hit with 2000 before I move to the polish.

If you read stuff from the guyz who are REALLY good, they usually dont even sand past 400 when they start the compounds. Even the polishing shop I use for tough stuff only goes to 320.... but that's with high speed pro equipment.

well today was the first say it was some what warm in Michigan. so i washed under my car with a power washer... now that i think of it people must of thought i was nuts, for pulling out a jack at a car wash. Jacking my car up and laying under my car spraying it. But tomorrow I'm pulling the alt then taking it to a local place and having the casing removed because i don't have the 200psi impact gun thats needed to get that pulley off.
Then the sanding starts :-D thanks for all the help and onebad95, i think i might be emailing you soon about that polish.

guys... question.. can you only polish the aluminum components... what all metals can you polish, or parts on a car? and what are they made up.. ? thanks
adam

On the car, the only things that come to mind that can be polished are the aluminum parts and the plastic lens on the lights and such. The compounds are different for both normally, but both can be polished. I've polished my headlights, accessory brackets, alt., brakes (99-up PBR's), and aluminum driveshaft.
