im in between 1-2 for the mustang.

for a daily driver i like it to have some luxurys and be fun to drive. if it isnt ill end up hating the car. i had a 94 cavalier, i hated every minute i was in that car.

I'm between 2 and 3, I have to have a radio is a must, gotta have a soundtrack while driving the stang. I like having a/c because I can’t stand driving with the windows down or convertibles for that matter.

A full interior is a must, sound deadener, power stuff, but somehow the ride of a car doesn’t bother me unless it’s obviously ass and spine busting like my buddies old SRT-4 or the back of a school bus.

I also save weight where ever I can, mini starter, aluminum engine parts, no subs, ect...

I'll take a rough ride in the name of performance, but i wouldnt rip out the sound deadener or anything. My ultimate plan is to have a griggs suspension, tt-427 dart, and then dynamat the interior, full cage, with a nice stereo... the whole deal.

Luxury all the way.

I used to say performance when i was younger, but as you get older you want comfort.

Now i'm heavily into sport luxury cars. Give me 300-400HP, a nice stereo, bluetooth, Nav, cozy seats, HID's and all sorts of goodies and i'll be all set.

If Ford ever decided to release a Lincoln Mark 9 based on the Mustang chassis i would be all over that.

Yeah if you don’t have balance in your DD or street car you'll hate it.

I drove a 95 tracer wagon when the stang was down, 5 doors no power locks, 4 doors no power locks, and worst of all its surprisingly 3500lbs, 88hp, auto trans. I used to take it to 6K on a regular basis, sometimes the puny little tires couldn’t catch traction when wet.

It did have ice cold ac, but I had to turn the air off if I wanted to pull out into traffic or get on the highway because the parasitic drag was that great. 'Hey I gotta make a left turn, so its gonna get hot in here.'

are you serious?

i agree with the power and nice seats and a nice stereo. get a tom tom. we have one and Ive used it once. nice little things for the price. ( was my present to my dad for fathers day )

Ive drove a newer mustang and a 01 GT. i really was surprised how the 01 rode.

I'm surprised you don't like you newer GT as a DD.

btw when was the last time you drove you LX more then 10 miles?

I can't stand things suction-cupped to my window. I would either need to have it hard mounted...or come factory. I prefer factory.

I HATE my GT as a DD. Sure it has nice seats, A/C and a decent stereo, but i commute 26 miles each day in it and hate driving stick. It rides rough (compared to other cars it does but for a Mustang it's soft). I can't put anything in the trunk. I've tried to go pick up friends from the airport and need to borrow a car because their luggage won't fit into the opening of my Mustang. None of my friends can fit in the backseat. My girl friends hate it because it hurts thier boobs over bumps. I can't drive it in the wintertime.

Don't get me wrong, on a nice summer Sunday i love to go waste half a tank of gas with it....but just trying to live daily life with it sucks a fat one.

I haven't driven the 5.0 in 4 years...but don't get me started on that. My GT is like a caddy compared to that car. The suspension is so stiff. It handles awesome, but uncomfortable to ride in. I could never DD that car again. It will be my weekend toy.

I'm selling my GT to buy an Infiniti G35x. I can't wait

I drive down 91 every day and get everyone asking me why I didn't get my G in a stick. Uh, you go ahead and do 25 miles twice a day in ****ty traffic and see how fun it is.

By the time you get around to it you'll be able to get a G37 for the same price you're expecting now

i think my fox needs motor mounts. it clunks, and ive checked about everything else. ( had to throw that out there...its been bugging me for months)

i love driving my 5.0 most the time i dont wanna go home. its fun to cruise around in. a 5 speed would make its 300 times better though.

tell them to put on a bra.

^agreed. My seats are somewhat comfy, and if it didn't take so much time off my hands i would probably have the interior ripped out. But I'm just lazy. All I need is a somewhat comfy seat and a stereo. maybe a heater for the winter...but who needs a/c for the summer? Especially in a 'vert!

Depends on what you're using the car for. As a DD, yeah, I'd like a radio and a few basic creature comforts (heater, sound insulation, etc.), but not a bunch of ridiculous idiocy like GPS and heated seats and motorized cupholders n' whatnot. Fewer options = fewer little things to break and constantly repair/replace. Owning a Lincoln taught me to appreciate simplicity, because I got so sick of every damned electronic or motorized piece of crap on that car failing and being a royal pain (and expense) to fix, or at least bypass.

However, if we're talking about it being a SECONDARY car ... which is the case with my '86 GT 'vert (or at least, it was supposed to be, until The Chubby turned out to be a steaming turd) ... then screw luxury. I want a beefy motor, a solid transmission, and plenty of chassis/suspension to make use of it in a straight line and in turns.

I forget the company name that produces them, but the epitome of my idea of automotive happiness is the Atom. Absolutely NO extras whatsoever, strictly performance. It's basically an overgrown go-kart on steroids. Not even a windscreen involved. Hey, when I can drive a car that's got enough insane acceleration that my face will ripple and the intake's close enough to my head that it feels like my brains are being sucked out of my ear ... what's it matter to have a few bugs stuck in my teeth?

I voted bare bones, but for me it depends on what purpose the car has. If it's a DD i have to have a stereo...no two ways about it. If it's my Mustang which won't ever see DD duty, then the duel exhaust is all the stereo i need while i'm in motion (besides, an old hot rodder friend of mine once told me stereos are for sittin still )

Mustang5L5 has the right idea...

I am getting into the 300+ hp luxury cars also. How can you knock it? I have used tom tom's and Garmin and they work, but look terrible and will never compete with factory or built in. My friends fox has a built in dash navi now, touch screen etc and it is priceless. Got us around SC in traffic.

Probably!

I actually found two i wanted byt the dealers gave me crap on trade-in for my GT.

As soon as the GT sells...i'm heading to the Infiniti dealer!

But back on topic.

If it's a secondary car, then i'm all for sacrificing some amenities for speed. My 5.0 will be my secondary fun car. It has no A/C and the radio is not all that great. It rides rough but you know what? It's fun as hell and i can drive it for hours and hours on end.

However as a DD, nothing beats a brand new car. it spoils you having something nice and new and still under warranty and all i have to do is put gas in it and go and make a few payments here and there.

I know a lot of guys justify maintainence on a used car as still being cheaper than a car payment...but i just can't drive an old car anymore. I don't mean it in a sort of arrogant "I'm better than that" kind of way...but i just don't like dealing with repairs. My GT has 54K miles and just now i've had a couple minor things need to be fixed (leaking axle seal, broken seat trim) that i easily fixed for cheap and in an hour or two. I don't like it. I'm at the point where little things might start to break and i just don't have the time to deal with it. I justify car payments as sort of saying i won't need to be outside on my back in 20-degree weather fixing odds and ends on my car.

I would gladly pull the engine out of my 5.0 and rebuild it just for the hell out it....but it's getting to the point where i don't even want to do oil changes on my daily driver.

Oh, i also consider myself a short-term car owner. I get bored fast. I've gone 4 years with my GT and feel that it was 1 year too long. People used to ask me if i was concerned about driving my car in the salt to which i replied "I don't plan on owning it long enough to be concerned". If i were to buy a new car today...it would most likely be sold in less than 4 years.
