Post Pypes O/R H pipe install

It is noise that only occurs at the 3000-3100rpm mark. No where else...

However - I think I might have figured out what it is! I believe its the drivers side muffler. I dont think the clamp is tight enough. The ones that come with the flow masters are junk so I am going to buy a good pair today and will throw them on. Ill keep you all posted.

How did you notice the small leak? Did you see the black marks on the pipes?

Also - do you notice a lot more of a exhaust smell since the pypes are on? I do.

I really believe the issue is with my muffler clamps. I will be SO happy if I get rid of this sound! The Flowmaster A/T clamps are garbage

I smell alot of exhaust-quite possibly since the cats are no longer there to burn up most of the "stuff". One thing you might also notice with your Flows tips is they will turn a brownish color after a short period. bigcat had this happen as well and believes it is deposits that used to get burned up by the cats. I followed his suggestion of after polishing, apply some wax. That holds up well for a few weeks in my case:( Oh well, I just keep them as shiny as possible, but I do love the sound:drool:
+1 on the garbage clamps supplied! I'm thinking about having them welded.

Hey guys I just ordered a Pypes off road h pipe with MIL eliminators. I see there are some small but possibly annoying issues. I am going to install it over the weekend if I get it in time and I wont be rushing since taking your time is always the best technique. Any tips or certain techniques anyone has that might make the install easy as possible for me or anything in particular I should watch out for or do? Last one I did was a 87 GT...about 45 minutes to an hr. with no real problems. Thanks

Just did it this weekend, not a pypes, but Mac. Probably similar.

The install is pretty straight forward. Undo your sensors (3 of them), then the four bolts up top. Undo the clamps in the rear and slide it forward. If you're having the passenger side top bolt is the hardest to get to, if you have an swivel-elbow adapter for your socket its a piece of cake.

putting the new one in is even easier. it helps in some parts to have 2 people, but one person could easily do the job.

Rattle Rattle... I solved my problem..

Just posted this in another post, but here it is again..

Try the transmission bellhousing cover. Mine rattles at around 2800-3000 rpm. Took two bolts out and put RTV on the surface, put bolts back in. Problem Solved

Give the bolts a good shot of PB Blaster about 20 minutes before you go to work on them. The removal will go a lot smoother. Also, the last time I did one, I pulled the battery. Not only did it allow light down there, but it gave me really easy access to the passenger 02 sensor.

I could hear it as small pulsing hiss.. if that makes any sense. I knew right away it was the pass side manifold > down pipe. Messed with it for an hour yesterday with a friend and still can't get the dang thing to stop leaking. Going over a friends house tonight who has a lift.. hopefully I can get this sorted out.

Yup, there is more smell but it's nothing more then you'd get driving around a classic stang. It's just the crap in the exhaust the cats use to clean up. :nice:

I believe what you're referring to is commonly referred to as "trumpeting". I've described it as a vibration/rattley sound. I've got an 06 manual with the Pypes off-road H and 40 series flows and I hear it around 2500 RPM. Every S197 mustang I've heard with an off-road H has the sound around the same RPM's. On another forum, there is speculation that it has to do with the variable valve, but no one seems to have a fix. The slower you accelerate the more pronounced it is. If you're burning through the gears you only hear it a split second.

The off-road H does make the exhaust smell more. Mine smells like my dad's antique gasoline tractors.

Our '05 with Off Road X has trumpets and they're very noticeable. I have an off road H on the '07 with Violators, and I have no trumpets (or drone for that matter). In fact, I've heard of more trumpet complaints with X pipes and H pipes.

If I shift normally - without hard acceleration... I do not really hear the sound at the 3000-3100 mark. However, if i hit the gas hard - it's really noticable.

If I leave my car idling in the driveway to warm up in the AM with the heat on - I can smell a faint smell of exhaust in my car (I am guessing that the heater is pulling it in). If I start to drive - the smell isnt really there.

Does anyone have this problem as well?

Also - here are pics after the install. From the looks of my pypes - I would say that it the color is showing there is no leak? I was told if I see black then there is a leak.

Let me know if you see anything that doesnt look right as well!

It is trumpeting. Brenspeed told me it's from the 3v motor. Personally I hate the noise but like Bigcat says you learn to drive around it. Also the hangers are not long enough and they hit the brackets. I just bent mine back a little and this really solved that problem.(I didn't use a torch) It's been posted before that resonators will solve the trumpeting problem.

I had my car up on a lift yesterday while the springs were being installed and I got a chance to really check out under the car again. My Pypes O/R pipe isn't near anything to make any contact.
