I'm interested in how these 4.6's are in the long run. I've had my '99 Limited Edition for about two months, it has 107k on it. The tranny is like new, smooth and perfect, never a grind, or whine, nothing, and real smooth going into gears, at any rpm. My rear whines, but only when i'm just giving a tiny bit of gas, to maintain speed, when on it and off it it does'nt do it. Um, and, my engine has a very slight knock to it, which is only noticable at very low rpm, no idea what it is, but I know i've heard the same sound in almost every F150 i've seen, and other stangs too. I guess they all do it, I posted about it recently. Um, dont use any oil at all, gas mileage is normal. I drive it daily, and my only complaint is the whine from the rear, 40-60mph it's loudest, but again, it wont do it under acceleration or when off the throttle entirely.

Yeah so, I guess I wanna hear about those who join me in the 100k+ club

P.S. Does anyone know like, how long the 4.6 2V is good for, I guess there probably isnt much diference between 96-98 and 99-04, unless more power will effect longevity? I've had 3 5.0's go over 200k no problem(engines only not trannies!!! ). I want an idea what to expect before head gasket/bottom end/valvetrain issues arise. Post away!!!

Well, I am pretty sure my engine is 100%. Good compression in all cylinders. Burns NO oil what-so-ever. Never any engine problems. Gas mileage is normal. Slight whine in transmission in most of first gear (I suppose it's pretty normal for these T3650 cars?). I have 23,000 miles on the clock.

moduler 4.6 usually holds up to milege good. I've NEVER heard any nocking sound from 4.6 with 107K
unless it wasn't maintained well.
Well maintained, 4.6 can run 150k+without no issue. Remenber, service vihecles, such as Police intercepter and taxi cab usually run 200k~250k befor any major issue serface. If your car with 107k is nocking and rear whinning, I would get that looked at. May be previous owner installed ring and pinion, and was not correctly shimmed?
And nocking sound? I would definatlly get taht looked at.

My engine have just shy of 41000miles, and I have had ZERO issue with engine. I did replace few small supporting acc, such as IAC, idler pully, belt.

Oh and clutch brew at 39500miles. No rear whinning at all

Well I would'nt call it a knock really....it's hard to explain, it only does it at idle. Like, i've heard a few F150's with 5.4's make the same sound, with low miles.
Somebody mentioned piston slap in another thread, that's probably what it is. I use no oil, it sounds fine and revs to the red no problem, no smoke....I'm just paranoid because I have so many miles. But I just put my '95 XR7 Cougar back on the road, it's near mint cond. 159k but had the heads rebuilt a year ago, and obviously the head gasket was done. Heh, the 3.8's are notorious for hg failure.
Anyways it's loaded every available option, just like my stang, if you could get an option, it has it. Which is nice.

So, well, I guess I have nothing to be concerned about. It's not really a knock, just like..a slight....werd type sound, sounds like valvetrain noise, but who knows. I'm betting it's the piston slap someone mentioned. Where the piston at the bottom of the stroke comes out of the cyl a little and wobbles. That's pretty much how he described it.

But yeah, these engines are supposed to last forever. Between the cabs and police cars yeah, I doubt I have anythign to worry about.

Oh, this is probably important to mention. The rear had a leak, and god knows how long it was leaking before I got the car. This is probably why it whines. I had it serviced when I had my exhaust put on. The shop told me about it, I didnt even notice, i'd only had the car like 2 weeks at that point, and that was about 2 months ago. It is no better, but, it's not leaking and I painted it the cover while it was off. Anyways the teath looked really good to me, but, there was a -tiny- bit of play, when i'd turn a wheel, back and forth, I dont know if that is normal, and it was an import shop, but they said it's not normal. I expected the teath to be all worn, but again it only whines when i'm steady on the gas, not when i'm accelerating or off the gas......

99 automatic, also 107k. All original, except the intake manifold was
replaced at 50k due to the plastic crossover which cracked. the engine
has no leaks and runs smooth as silk.Even the alternator is still the original one.
The IAC was replaced at 75k and other than normal maintainance
thats about it.

99 cobra 82k miles. Runs great, but found oil on top of #4 spark plug and on the threads of plug number 8. Valve cover gaskets maybe?

96 gt 91,000 never had an engine or any other issue with this car....friend has a 97 gt with 280,000 and has been blown for most of those miles and runs great. Take care of these engines and they will run a long time.

my cousin has a 2000 with at least 110,000 - 120,000 miles on it, runs great. not 100% sure its the original engine, but we have no reason to believe it's ever been replaced, he bought the car with over 100k miles on it (no idea why he did that) but yeah, no complaints

98 GT, engine runs excellent, never had any engine problems except shredding a couple belts, idler pulley, little stuff ... well, and my stock intake cracked. My TOB is garbage right now, sounds like 500 birds chirping in my floorboard.

its an auto, stock shortblock....PI intake/Cams/Vortech @8PSI. He's finally contemplating a forged SB and more boost since he is nearing 300,000 miles. These modulars are long lasting if nothing else.
