powdercoating wheels

depends on where you take them. i was told 15 each. but that was becasue he is a freind of the family.

lol im sorry but this is completley pointless to post, its not like hes going to send them to you so you can get them done for 15 bucks each.

I think it would cost around 50-100 bucks each, and primer and paint would work, but the quality and finish will come no where NEAR powder coating them.

i thought of painting but if i screw it up then i am stuck with ugly wheels. does anybody have any pics of spraypainted black wheels and comparison pics of powdercoated wheels.

My dad spray painted these himself, with the cheap autozone wheel pain, their not black but their the gunmetal color. I think they look sweet.

I could go out and snap some upclose pics if you want.

It's hard to find a good powdercoating place. If you can get it done right, it will look good, but it often comes out like crap. I would just paint them like stated above. If you're good with a shaker can, it will come out as good if not better than some powdercoating jobs.

id like a 68 when im way older. like retired.

what color is that?

Its viper blue.

And to the poster, Id go ahead and try to paint them. Clean them real good. And stand far back so it dosent drip, and give it a few coats.

As for screwing them up...the worst that you'd have to do is repaint them...that's simple. Even as a last resort you could paint them back to a silver/OEM color and nobody but you would know the difference.

ok i think i will do it, do i need to sand them like somebody said. if so just rough them up a little or what. i have some wheel clearcoat. would that make it shine black when i am done with the black paint.

I wouldnt sand them, if you did Id use some very very fine grit sandpaper, id use some paint stripper on them or something to clean the surface up.

ok good i did not wanna sand. i am going for the blackout look. it's a coupe with the 85 front end. i want it black with smoked headlight covers, black wheels and i am painting the chrome on my euro tails with black paint. i like black wheels on black cars.

I would get something like 600 grit sandpaper....something just rough enough to dull down the factory paint or whatever is on there... you want this so that the primer sticks really good. And you want to primer them. Do a good 2-3 coats of primer and use 1000 grit sandpaper between coats and make sure you let them dry between coats.

Then lay on your paint in thin layers, untill you've got a good smooth finish. After that you can wet sand them and then go back for a couple thin finish coats and then clear them. It sounds like a lot of work but it'll pay off if you take your time and do it right...and hey like i said if you screw up just start over!

I did some ten holes this way a while back and they were soooooo nice looking for ten holes. I got compliments all the time. When the sun hit them they just jumped right out at ya! I used Duplicolor wheel coating...it's good stuff.

Note, i didn't use any clear coat on mine...and i painted them so that they had a very very light texture to them that you really couldn't notice unless you were up really close. This added to the sparkle.

Yeah i was real happy with them. I did try their clear wheel coating that they suggest to put overtop of that, but it totally changed the look of the wheel....they got really dull looking...i didn't like it. I did the center caps with it and that was part of why i never ran them with caps.
