Power Delivery Question

I bought an 87 5.0 about 3 weeks ago. When I bought it the previous owner told me that when he had the stock h-pipe replaced by recall the installer over tightened the bolts connecting the h-pipe to the headers on the passenger side and cracked a part of the header creating a leak.
When driving normally the leak was unnoticeable but when I got on the throttle you could begin to hear the air push through and a loss of power was also detected.
This last week I ordered and installed my ford racing shorty headers and this mod seems to have gotten rid of my leak and noise issue but I still feel as if I'm not getting the power I should be receiving after 3500 rpm.
The car hauls until about 3500 rpm in first gear and after that the engine continues to rev to redline but I’m not going any faster. Could this be clutch slippage?
Thanks in Advance
