I Am Getting A Dyno Tune On The 28th, What Do You Guys Think I Will Put Down? I Live In Ca And Only Have 91 Octane. My Mods Are In My Sig.im Looking For 420rwhp.possible?

15psi roughly (3.12 pulley no aftercooler=15psi)(check sig)

how do you pass emissions running that much boost? and shouldn't you be running stage 2 blower cams with that mucb boost?

He's in CA though, bunch of environmentalist Nazis over there. More than a "stage 1" cam would probably fail you in the sniffer in any state.

i know, i am in cali too. and i can only get stage 1 cams or i'll fail the sniffer. but i was just wondering how he got so much boost without special blower cams. and i was told you can't run that much boost here and stay legal.

Why would you need cams to get lots of boost? Improving airflow on a centri. blower usually lowers the psi anyway.

well i thought if you ran cams with lower compression you could run more boost, so i thought that with his 15lbs of boost he would have to be running blower cams, to lower the compression enough. but i am a newb to all this and still figureing it out

Piston shape (dish) is one way to control compression, cams have absolutely nothing to do with that. Get a piston with more dish (more of a "crater"-like shape) and that will lower compression, everything else being equal. Less compression does let you run more boost. Cams specifically designed for a supercharger or turbo usually give BIG gains over stock cams though. I believe VT Engines gained about 87RWHP shock: ) on a Novi blower (intercooled) car with 12psi. I forget if it might have been a stroker or not.

You should blow 420 rwhp right out of the water at 15 psi. I'd say closer to 475. Good luck.

ahhhhhhhhhhh ok so cams don't affect compression...interesting...so if i wanted to lower my compression to run more boost, i'd need pistons with more "dish" to them right?
so cams that are specifically designed for boost applications are different how? more lift and more duration? or less...

Yep.

I forget what the differences are. I think supercharger cams open the intake and exhaust valves later than an N/A grind would, as well as having less overlap. Turbo cams I heard were like N/A cams except for overlap or something.

But I could be (probably) totally wrong. Ask the guy from VT Engines, he'll tell you everything you would ever want to know.

stage 1 is all i can go in ca.the boost doesnt matter for smog because they only take the engine to 2500rpm

damn they only go to 2500 rpm? wow! that makes me think you could possibly run more aggressive cams couldn't you?

no.if the engine lobs at all they will screw you big time.its hard enough getting away with long tubes.(they never check the headers they only check for cats and i through on my stock pipes that look like crap because they are cut and welded to fit long tubes.)

No I Have The Bbk Long Tubes And O/r X Pipe But I Use The Stock Pipes For Smog.the Stock Pipes Are Custom Fit To Work With Long Tubes So When Smog Comes I Use Them.
