Has anyone repaired their blower themselves? How hard is it? Special tools needed? I found a website that sells the Kevlar belt and 4 bearings for $100 and if they do it they charge $300. I might try to rebuild it myself, but some comments would be apreciated before/and if I tear it down.
It's not hard to do,,,take pullley off, and remove the allen head bolts and pull the front cover plate off. It will need to be worked or since a bearing is recessed in it. Clean out the old belt and intsall new one and put it back together. I order a kit of e-bay when I had a powerdyne and the guy sent intructions with it..
The first bearing and washer need to come off to put the belt on. The first rebuild I had to get a 3 jaw puller and grind the jaws until they were narrow enough to get underneath the bearing. This tore the washer underneath. I didn't bother to replace the other bearings.
This time I'm getting a small bearing splitter to remove the upper bearing and will try the get the lower bearing out by packing it with grease and forcing it out hydraulically. I'll let you know how that works out. I'm expecting the bearing splitter to be delivered on Tuesday. I'll post my progress as I go through the rebuild.
This one isn't mine but this its current state. I think I should be able to set up the bolt puller in a way to pull the shaft out, otherwise I can get a steel bar and drill some holes in it. I'm ordering the parts this week so it should be back together in early November.
