Preliminary Number from Project 2VNA-10

The baseline numbers are in on the new combo. The goal of this project is 10's 2VNA with a 4.6L (No big bore or stroker). The engine was built with high RPM's in mind and will get the Fox Lake P51 race intake when it's ready. Keep in mind, this is NOT a high dollar project. We tried to keep the costs down to make it a realistic project.

This was a joint project between Fox Lake and MD Motorsports. I'd like to thank Ron and Corey from Fox Lake for building such an impressive combo.

Here are the major highlights

Fox Lake built longblock

Iron block (.020 over)
GT crank
Eagle rods
CP Pistons
Stef oil pan
Fox Lake heads
Fox Lake custom spec cams
Electric water pump
Ported Bullitt intake

Peak power was right around 6,200 RPM. That's important to note because the cams are designed for around 7,000 RPM peak power. That means the bullitt intake is the restriction and hopefully when the P51 goes on, we will see more high RPM power.

And now for the numbers:

Here is the dyno graph compared to my old combo that I ran 11.72 with.

362 RWHP / 353 RWTQ was a bit more than we expected at that RPM so I'm am very pleased to say the least. I hope to hit the track within a few weeks. There is still a bit more work that needs to be done to the car.

:eek: 10's are hard to imagine out of 360rwhp but i know its possible. Hope you guys can squeeze a bit more out and get it to the ground, be insane to see a 10 sec NA gt...very impressive :flag:

I think KenB was running 11.07 (or maybe 11.70s if I'm dyslexic) with about 320hp.

Either way, those are some awesome numbers out of the new setup :nice:
 
10's probaby wouldn't happen with those numbers, that's why it says preliminary;)

Tune is very safe, and once the P51 Race intake goes on, I should see a significant increase in power.

Best on the old combo which is the other graph is 11.72

any word when the P51 is going to be ready? i ordered mine back in march and havent heard any word on it.....

I believe in a few weeks. The first guy on the list is here in Cincinnati and is getting it installed and tuned here so keep an eye out for results.

i believe its rpms that are where the cranks get weak(over 7k?), they should be good for plenty of power...think about how many stock block gts are running 400rwhp

That does make me curious too, but I've been led to believe that you'll need a Cobra crank for high RPMs not high power.
 
That's a good question on the crank.

The reason that I used the GT crank is because

it's lighter
it's cheaper
and this is a project car and we thought we would test just how good the GT crank is. I think alot of people are wasting there money on a Cobra crank.

How many have had a GT crank actually fail?

Never heard of a crank failure in a GT. Most replace the GT crank with the cobra unit when they upgrade internals though and most stock bottom end GT's aren't going to push 7,000+ rpm, until they've upgraded the bottom end

I've always heard that the GT crank would fail with higher rpms, ie 7000ish, but would be fine for sane power levels at a lower rpm.

Good numbers, btw.

I agree with you there. Think about how many guys are making 600 horsepower on cast crank small block chevies and big block mopars. This whole forged crank thing has gotten out of hand. Forged cranks have gotten so cheap for small chevies and even most of your other pushrod engines people really forgot how strong a cast crank is..

Now the stock GT rods on the other hand :barf: Why did ford ever think these rods would be good for anything other than a paperweight.
 
I was told the GT crank could reliable come close to 500 rwhp , but only if you could get that power at a lower RPM range under boost . RPM would be the major killer in theory anyway ..I guess we shall see ...
