First off, if this belongs in a different section of the forums, then maybe a Mod can move me...thanks...

I'm not in tune at all with the Fox market, so i thought i would post this here and maybe get a bit of help, all i have owned in the last 7 years are Terminators. Anyway, I have an opportunity to pick up an '87 LX 5.0 from the original owner. It was bought from a local dealer here back in 1987, and it doesn't even exist anymore. Here's the basic scoop on the car...

The owner is a 68 year old woman
bought here and driven here (Abq, NM) so rust isn't an issue
never been hit
160,000 miles, good maintenance records
paint is red but faded, now looks reddish-orange.
interior also red and faded
100% original, never modified, and never raced for that matter
it is a 5-spd car

its going to need some TLC to make it look really nice. But like they say, "its only original once". She wants in the neighborhood of $3500-4000 for it. I have no idea what a fair price for a car like this would be. It looks like it would be a fun little 5.0 to tinker with.

My car was a 1 owners car also. I paid $3700 for it in April of 09. It was also owned by an old man. Just like that one it was 100% stock right down to the air siliencer. Mine was repainted in 2005 and a new cloth top was installed @ the same time. It was a garage queen that had only 8,000 since 2005. The total miles was 91,000. It also recently had a water pump, radiator, A/C compressor & drier done. I think I got a deal on mine. I would say $3500 would be a decent price.

4k is pushing it with the miles. I'd say 3k, $3500 at the most. Original owner or not, it's a car with 160k miles on it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really don't have too much leverage with the old gal, because she's really on the fence to even sell it, so I'm afraid if I knock her price down too far, she'll walk away from the deal entirely.

Oh, and it's a hatch, if that makes any difference.

If you want it...........get it. It's got some miles, and I'd try to haggle her down some.......but if you pay no more than that you're doing alright.

I'd offer her $3,500 and throw in a free lawn cutting or gutter cleaning.

Trust me, you'd be shocked at how well that type of offer is received by "older" folks.

Paid $4500 for my '87 LX a few months ago (stock-except for an AOD to T5 swap-orig paint, clean interior, 95k miles).

$4000 would be too much for a car with 160k.

Picked it up for 3K, was able to talk the old gal down without her walking away from the deal. It needs some TLC, but its strong like Ox, and appears to have pretty much every option on it, including the light group, graphic equalizer stereo, etc etc. Thanks for the input guys, it is much appreciated, I think it was a pretty good deal. Original-owner old-lady cars are hard to come by, especially an LX 5.0 that an old lady drove. In fact, when i test-drove it and took it above 3 Grand on the tach, she freaked, lol. It feels like it has a LOT of life left in it.

Very sweet find! 3K and unmolested by the usual teenage butchers is hard to come by anymore! If you're not in love with it, give it a detailing and Craigs List it, you can make $ on that! If you are in love with it, you're right!
