First off let me say hello to everyone, this is my first post but not my last. I recently purchased an 02 GT vert. I cant get enough of it, even though its stock as stock gets. So of course now its time to start with the mods. I am purely a budget racer but a racer none the less. (by budget I mean BROKE!!) Just looking for a little info on the best bang for my buck. I heard that pro computer tweaking and tuning can really incraes power, is this true? Any more Ideas will be more than appreciated. Thank

The first thing that I did, and the last till next year when the ProCharger goes on, is 4.10s and a tune. Just buy the SCT XCal 2 and tune it up. Took off almost .8 secs off my 1/4 mile time.I went from a 14.54 to a 13.8x.
I did the 93 oct. tune so thats up to you, but I gained 20 rwhp from that alone.
Talk about a huge difference the firt time I put it to the floor was on the way home from getting them installed and it blew my mind what a difference it was. I have an auto I dont know what you have but either way youll like them.

Honestly dude if you are on a budget, I wouldn't recommend starting with a tuner. Save that for down the road after you have more supporting mods you can gain power from with a tune. If it were me, I'd start with exhaust (won't give you a whole lot of gains, but the sound will make up for it,) then go for gears.

Removing the air silencer if you feel the need (there's debate as to whether it does a whole lot, but a bigger hole to suck air through seems like a no-brainer to me,) should also be high on the list, as well as a higher flowing air filter (this is also debatable (what isn't?), but dyno proven to gain you a few hp.)

I'd go Steeda pullies and a K&N FIPK. Don't forget gears even if they are a somewhat pricey mod. They will need to be professionally installed but they are worth it. It is a bit more involved if you have an auto since shift points will need to be reset along with the speedo. A cat-back will just provide sound but they are cool. Budget and Racer don't belong in the same sentence but I can relate.

I'm in the same boat...just got the car and can't wait to spend money on it. Did the KN air filter....but nothing else yet. Next few things I've thought about doing are the cat-back exhaust (mainly for the sound) and a new shifter. Then maybe a complete intake setup...gears...then either a Xcal or a prof dyno tune. Good luck and enjoy!
