Pro50 to MGW-- BIG UPDATE post#15

I swapped today. My first comments are that the Pro50 is a 1st class quality shifter that you will not regret buying if that's one of your choices. The MGW feels stange and I almost removed it immediately and swapped back. The side to side action felt like it was sticking and not going to it's 3-4th position with a spring like action. From 2nd to 3rd was not so accurate. However,2-3 hours later it is loosening up and beginning to feel crisp and faster. Maybe it does have to break in. Tomorrow(Tues) I'm going drag racing.(Atco). No fancy shifting for the first couple of runs until the confidence builds.I am in no way knocking the MGW..just saying I have to give it a chance & let it wear in. I bought it for a reason..everyone swears by theirs.Anyway, those of you that have them,how was your "out of the box experience".

I couldnt imagine a better shifter than the Pro 5.0...and I guess this proves it. Everyone like their pro 5.0 better than any other shifter they have had...except one guy I think...but his was old and he got a brand new triax and said it wasnt as loose...but thats to be expected as they loosen up after a while and really feel better loose IMO. Its the same with your new MGW, it will loosen up and feel better. (although my 5.0 felt great from the start with no strangeness )

i had a mgw on my v6. i loved it. my gt came with a triax on it and although its a good shifter, i still loved the way my mgw felt and even more so how it sounded, or i should say, how it didnt sound. the triax is just WAY to noisy.

you gotta give the MGW time to get used to. nothing against the pro50, but this proves nothing. the first spin i took with the MGW i wondered how anyone could possibly use it as a daily driver. but after a few days, if felt very crisp, smooth and i havent missed a shift since. i love how the handle doesnt vibrate all over the place like others. the ONLY imperfection about it is that you have to give it a little umph and reach to get into fifth, and its really not that big of an issue anyway. give it a few days before you make up your mind. that or hit the gym jk man, give it time.

The Pro50 was great from the get-go. No break in. It's difficult to compare 2 quality shifters. I'm sure I'll love the MGW in a week or so. The off- set orange shift handle with the 360o adjustment is a pleasure. I was expecting a stronger "centering spring" in the base. Anyway I'll re-evaluate next week. This is not a negative thread.Just a critique. I have many MGW chrome dress ups & the fuel door. Their work (fit & finish) is the best.(and packaging) Never received any wrong items or shipping damage.I know George will stand behind everything he produces because he is a quality person.(I never met him..only phone sales & tech)He does not push or B/S his customers.

I have drove a couple others, but bought the MGW because of all the good things Ive heard. I like it a lot. I think once you get used to it you will like it. Im sure you are used to the Pro50. Just give it a little time!

OK thanks-that is my game plan. I have no complaints right now..just an initial impression.

Yeah that hard to get in fifth thing never went away with mine, but I never "speed shift" in to 5th anyway so I have no problem taking the time to get it in there. Mine loosened up quite a bit.. I kind of miss how tight it was when I bought it. I missed 3rd for the first time ever the other day.

you're right, with our cars its not like you're ever going to need to power shift into fifth. although i was just taking my stang for a spin to listen to my new mufflers, and i hit the interstate in 4th doing 70 and put it into fifth with no real effort. i guess i only notice it when im cruising and granny shifting.

Fifth gear is a bonus...hardly used. I think the missing third has to do with the trans and a little bit of human error. I took a late joy ride last night. MGW is getting better.

My Pro 5.0 W/ steeda...5th is as close or closer than 3rd was with my stock shifter...easy to get into. If you have 4.30s, you will NEED to hit 5th before the 1/4 is up lol.

I liked the feel of the MGW, but i love my tri-ax.. i'm not sure which i'd rather have, they both felt nice tho

The MGW does need a break-in. I put mine in last march, and it took a week for it to really loosen up.

But now -- holy crap -- it's fast and slick. The only time I miss a shift is when I'm granny shifting and not really paying attention. The MGW likes to be shifted fast. Fast, hard shifts with the MGW are like flipping a togle switch.

Works fine....was sticking at first and I was ready to throw it out. It did loosen up.I was fast to judge..but I didn't expect anything less than perfection from the start.The MGW is like everyone says..fast and slick. I raced today..7 passes..did not miss 3rd. I was missing 3rd with the Pro50(reason I bought the MGW) The shift handle has the proper angle..no more stretching for gears. So..thanks for listening everyone..I was pissed and fast to reject the MGW before it got worked out. Maybe I should not have been so impulsive to react. The MGW shifter is awesome.I like it already..24 hours later and I'm glad I made the swap. I also improved my track time today with it. It definitely is made for daily driving also. If you buy one..it's a great choice.

Day # 3. This shifter is supreme. I close this thread on a good note. I would buy the MGW again.It was great at the track yesterday and fun cruising with today. END OF STORY!
