problem fillin up

I'm not to used to my mustang yet and I'm having a kinda annoying problem. Whenever I try to fill it up with gas it always backwashes it back out. I talk with some of my other friends that have mustangs around that year (68) and they all have the same problem too. They told me to hold the nozzel almost upside down and pump slowly.....VERY slowly. If anyone has a solution to this problem please let me know, Thanks

It's a common problem, pumps nowadays pump the gas alot quicker than they used to.

I've found that the best way is to only insert the nozzle about 1/2 way and to "aim down" the nozzle as much as possible.

Open your trunk and look at the filler neck/tube and the way it bends down into your gas tank. You want to pump the fuel so that it follows as much of a "straight path" as possible. After a few time you'll get pretty good it at.

Yup, I think we've all run into this issue before. Really sucks when you've just finished putting a good detail on your car and then have gas splatter all over the rear bumper.

1. keep a rag in the trunk and pad beneath your gas cap
2. change stations - in Los Angeles, I've found all the Arco station pumps work with my 67 just great - almost every other brand of station - puddles of fuel on the ground. Theairbourne gas recovery systems they stick on the nozzle don't help wither - on 67-68's you have to be very careful that the snorkle doesn't back-fill with fuel as you fill the tank and dump out on you when you remove the nozzle. About the only thing that kills me about daily driving a classic.
