Problems after engine swap....

I just had a engine from a 60k mile roller 302 from a 94 f150 installed into my 95 GT auto.

The motor already had a e303 camshaft.

Motor is back in and it runs but it runs bad. Running pretty rich at startup and it is stalling alot.

Also the guy that installed the motor managed to crimp my EGR tube inhalf. How bad could this be affecting performance?

The dumb%$# that installed the motor didn't install the new plugs I gave them to do. So it has some nasty old autolite platinums that sat in that motor for a year after it was removed. So I am going to change those. And it also has 6 month old gas in it.

The motor is from a 1994 F150 and the FI and such is from a 95 GT. Now what is my firing order? I know there is several.

I should have did the motor swap myself but I just didn't have the time and my girlfriend is bitching because she usually drives the mustang so I just had it installed.

What would you suggest I look into doing? Is the e303 to much cam for a automatic with a stock stall?

change plugs

I would change the plugs first, and try to siphon out some of the old gas, and put in fresh gas. I don't think changing the fuel filter would hurt at all either. Start with the small things first before you go crazy, cause it could be just like what you mentioned, thats causing it to run rough. I would also take a look at the wires, cap and rotor too. :nice:

What stangbanger94 said....do the basic stuff first....i would give it some "learn" time too....disconnect the battery while you change the plugs and such...on start-up, just let it idle and come up to temp....maybe take it out for a 1/2 hr drive or so....it will need some time to come around, least that what I always do....
That stank gas ain't helping either....you may or may not have fits with that cam..some do all right, some dont...long as it livable....idle changes may be needed to, is it idling ok??? check the TPS for grins before start-up, just to verify where it is..

Ok I changed the plugs today and it did start easier. However It still dies everytime you put it in gear. I am going to find the 10* mark on the balancer tomorrow and make sure the timing is right. I have a feeling the goons that installed the motor did not take that grey piece out when they adjusted the timing.

I am also gonna make sure the firing order is correct. I am hoping this will cure the problem.

New problem has surfaced.

When cranked I am getting a nice spark from my starter area. It was getting dark and I couldn't hardly get to the starter. I think the mustang looks better, rides better, and its nice because it has AC but damn...so much harder to work on than my camaro. And more expensive.

BTW: It fires up much much easier now with the new plugs. And in park it idles ok then suddenly try to die...then run strong...then die. If put in gear it dies. I hope it isn't that cam because I really don't want to go tearing the motor apart. I think I'd rather throw a stall in.

Are you sure that is the correct firing order? From what I can tell that is the firing order for the non-ho 302's

while 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 is for the HO motor....
:bs:

Note:
1. All hydraulic roller cams for 221-302, 351W use the late 5.0 and 351W Firing Order (1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8)

Thats probably why your car is running all f*ucked up, your firng order is wrong. Trust me the firing order I gave you before and now is right, unless you don't have a roller cam equipped engine.

Old post but I did manage to get the motor running pretty well. Still idles alittle rough but its pretty reliable now.

It ended up being the pickup coil. Installed a new one, got the timing at 13*, and got the firing order correct. Runs alright now.

I have thought about going back to a stock cam tho.

I did a lot of research on 94-95s when working on my fathers car, specifically with e-cams and idle problems. It seems like the only ones that had idle issues where using them with automatics. We put one in his manual and it idles a little rougher then stock but still at factory RPM with no stalling
