Problems with stang...let's see

I have a list of problems with my mustang. Some more minor than others, so I'm just going to list the ones that I'm worried about. I need some advice on what to do, what to look for, and so on.

1.Motor burns 1qt. of oil per week. No leaks, valve covers get grime buildup, smokes at idle sometimes, and when just accelerating normally through 1st, 2nd, then clears afterwards.(Motor has about 50K on rebuilt. I bought the mustang last Aug. from a guy that had a supercharger on it and sold the stang to me w/o the SC. Been burning 1qt/week since then).

2. Today I was low on coolant in the reservoir, more than usual. It was at the half way mark b/t hot and cold after I drove it for 30 minutes in town. I have been losing some coolant for a while though, just never as much as I notice today. (Had a new heater core put in the beginning of Jan this yr and that solve the majority of the problem of where my coolant was leaking from.)

3. Today my car got hotter than usual, even after I added some coolant. I ran my AC and on my Auto Meter water temp gauge 100*-250*, it was reading between the 210 mark and 250 mark. It usually barely spikes after the 210 with the AC on :( . Seem like it was around 225-235 or whatever that mark is after 210.

4. About 2 months ago, I was speeding around on a country road as usual when I took off in 1st, shifted into 2nd...the motor was hitting the rev limiter like crazy. In a matter of 2-3 seconds, I put it in neutral, tapping the gas pedal realizing it was stuck, and popped it out with the toe of my shoe  I just about *****ted myself. Well, it happened 2x's later on in the week as I was fooling around again. I've been keeping my foot out of it for a while and would occassionally get on it now and then and had no problem. Well, last week, leaving a parking lot fast, I was hitting the rev limiter again with the pedal stuck and have done it again 2x's this week. :nonono: (Is it my throttle body or the pedal cable? I popped the hood open and push the cable to where it was at WOT on the TB it got stuck.)

5. Lastly, my tranny has been popping out of 2nd gear like a mofo for the past month when I down shift from 3rd-2nd turning into a street, driveway, or whatever. I'm going to check my Pro5.0 shifter again, but I think the points were still firmly tightened and not lose. (Time for a tranny rebuild? 2nd gear synchro maybe out or what?)

I just had to get this off my mind. Few of these problems have added up for a while and I have just been hoping it was noting too serious and have been reluctant to get on here and ask for help. I might see about getting a compression test done within the the 2 weeks and if it comes down to it, I can save some more $$$ for a new motor :D . Might be til fall before I could get a long block though, maybe a DSS one. Sorry for the long post. Gotta go study. I'll be back later to check out the thread.

Anyone???

If my motor has already been bored .30 over, will it be alright for another rebuild with .40 bore??? I know overheating comes into play, but I'm not going for a .60 over, just seeing if a .40 over boring would work.

ill give you my diagnosis (im in h.s. still so im no technician but i know enough)
1.grime on the valvecovers could be a small part but your rings are probly shot or your valve guides. either wait your burnin oil.
2. change the oil yourself next time and look at it. id guess if nothings leaking visibally you got coolant goin into the engine. you can also look at the smoke out the tailpipes. if its white its got water (i think dont remember for sure im to lazy to go look at a book right now) id guess either a water jacket in the block is broke or somethin as simple as you need a new tb gasket.
3. no clue your SOL for info from me
4. if the tb is sticking put some wd40 on it and try that.
5. beat the **** out of the tranny and get a new one. otheriwse take it to a tranny specialist and have them look at it they usually will take it for a drive for free.

if i wasnt drunk i would probly be more help but i did what i could.

I know I don't have white smoke coming out and that when I check the dipstick, the oil doesn't look milky indicating I don't have coolant leaking into the engine. I'm just hoping it's my heads or the head gasket's are worn out. I'll mess around with the TB tomorrow and see if it needs some good ol' WD40.

I also thought about running the tranny til it goes boom, then just doing a rebuild later on since I'm not financially ready right now for rebuilding both the tranny and motor. Thanks Kurt for the help and suggestions. Just looking for some answers and opinions.

do a compression test or leakdown test to determine an idea of how your mill is doing. do wet and dry if you do the former test.

with that much burning, how does your PCV look?

stuck throttle: when you popped the hood and floored the gas and it stuck, was there any slack in the cable (checked at the TB)? if there was slack, that indicates that the throttle blade itself stuck (but the gas pedal and cable returned to normal). clean up the throttle with scotchbrite, etc and test it a lot till it does not stick anymore (w/o the use of WD, etc. you dont need to have that happen again). in the future, turn the car off immediately when that happens, if you are able to (being safe and all that). that is the easiest solution.

obviously, if the cable has no slack, the cable is probably sticking or chafed somewhere. swap in a new one.

good luck.

back of teh lower intake. it is buried down there - i have to lay across the motor to get at it (in order to see it). there is a metal screen under it.
remove the screen, examine it, and clean it. ditto for the rubber grommet. good luck.
