I was looking on ebay today and saw a mac pro chamber h-pipe with a high temp silicone coating for 209.00. is that a good deal? plus.... I have 40 series flowmasters on my 98 gt, will it sound deeper w/ the O/R prochamber than with an O/R x-pipe?

well i have flows, specifically the american thunder catback and i did have an o/r x pipe. And now i have Mac L/T headers and prochamber with the same flows and personally i cant decide which i like more. The car was diffently more raspy and louder through the lower end and screamed up high with the xpipe. I got tons of compliments on my setup and people asking what that setup was. But now with the headers and prochamber the car sounds more of a "big block" muscle car sound. there is no rasp and the car idles quieter. but when you get on it, it deffintely gets loud too. They say that x pipe offer more hp and h pipe (prochamber) offer more low end torque. If your looking to buy an o/r x pipe for your 98 let me know mine is only 6 months old and its an UPR x pipe.

Prochamber will be noticably quieter, without the metallic rasp, and will be a little deeper. I love the X-pipe becuase its loud and it screams with the flows. Its deep yet the slight rasp makes it sound extremely p!ssed off.

Flows with the O/R X sound great. Nice hollow, smooth sound that screams when you get on it. Prochamber and flows have a great tone, but they are quieter. I personally think the X is the best midpipe with flows IF you get the right brand.

mac claims more hp with the prochamber than with a traditional h,and imo it has a deeper, much better sound than any x. on a side note, out of curiosity has ANYONE done independent testing on any of these midpipes??? id like to see some hp #'s posted just to clarify the differences.

The only bad opinions on x pipes with flow combos I hear are the ones who used the BBK x pipe. The UPR, Mustangtuning, and Dr GAs all sound friggin demonic. I went with the prochamber because it sounds so great to me with the flows. Thats whatd Id go with because to me it sounds more muscle car like, but my next choice would be Dr Gas or mustangtuning X pipe. Good luck.

well now im starting to think that a prochamber might sound too quiet... I want more of a muscle car grunt to it, not a raspy let it scream 6 thousand rpm... could u hear me coming down the street w/ an O/R prochamber w/ flows shifting at just 2,500 rpm? anyone got sound clips? Thanks

No no no, don't go thinking it's too quiet, the P/C is NOT that quiet, in fact quiet isn't really the right word to use in describing the different idle sound between an X and the P/C. It has a "lower" idle note, but that much and not for long. As soon as you get going, not even getting on it, just get going, it sounds mean, that big block type mean.

I ran the P/c with 2 chamber Flows way back when and it sounded great! I wanted, and got my old time sound (yea, I'm old).

Now I run the same P/C with a Steeda (Borla) SS catback, and it sounds even better. I have to idle down the short hill from my house out to the main road in the morning so I don't wake people.

Check out my website below for the Video Vault where I have a couple clips.

flows and the prochamber sound great...but....flows with the right x pipe sounds better. I know of two brands of x pipes that sound amazing with flows.....flowtech and dr. gas or spintech who get x pipes from dr. gas. these three x pipes have the x further forward, under the transmission, therefore sound amazing with flows...take my word for it. have heard all of them. flowtech x and flows sounds to good in my opinion
