project 91GT

Did you put the dash speaker grills through the cage, that isnt done too often.

yes the speaker covers have a hole just big enough for the tube to go through, its been a little pain the ass working around them, but in the end the looks of it will be great.

Is the rear seat on the gixxer furry or just dirty? Keep up the good work on the stang, as it will definitely give many people something to strive for on their cars. (Im always looking for inspiration, oh and that money tree I planted...)

Yes the rear seat is definately furry. the gixxer belongs to the owner of the gt's girlfriend. the front seat was more furry than the rear one at one point. and i am also still looking for that money tree i planted

absolutely sick man, just out of my own morbid curiosity... what does a job like that cost?? not sure i even want to know haha

Well the cost of it is hard to put into actual money. there have been a lot of money spent on parts and stuff like that, but we are saving a lot of money on labor. i am helping a friend build this car.

i feel partially responsible for your thread getting locked by asking a dumb question like "what does that cost?" i'm sorry man i should have known better since you're new around here

anyway, do you have any plans for the motor/trans that's going into this car? are you going to weld over the gas cap since there's now a fuel cell? in any case, keep the pics coming!!

Chris

its cool, i'm just the dumbass for saying what i said. oh well, got it all fixed now.

motor plan is to stay in the 5.0 family, i think it will be like 331 with a F1C procharger. shooting for around 900 horse or so. would like to go with a T56 for the trans. rear is a 8.8, narrowed with moser axles.

the gas cap, door, i think is going to stay. it will have a shut off switch and a voltmeter gauge when you open the door. when the car gets it body work done, i will probably make the fit alot nicer, so there will be just a fine line where the door is. if it was my car i would probably shave it, but thats what he wants and it will be cool.

here ya go. more pic for you guys to check out.

working on reinforcing the lower battle box.

almost all welded up, need to grind and smooth up all welds still

Thats the owner of the car

and here is me, welding away

this is an awesome thread, thanks for re-opening it frankey.

you guys do nice work. keep the progress pics coming, i know im staying tuned. 600 views in what 2 weeks? looks like im not the only one.

thanks guys. i don't know if people get tired of looking at fabrication pics or not. i am a picture taker, i have a lot of pics of the build so far.

riceslayer, i just spent a hour looking through your engine bay thread, you did a good job. i'm sure your glad you decided to fill all them holes. its been awhile since we filled and smoothed ours, i forgot how many holes were there and how horrible it looked before. your motor is very nice looking, love the black against the white.

First I love that it is a hatch. I love that Hatch fox's. To top it off your going with a manual trans. Love it.

Did you buy the cage as a kit or did you bend the pipes yourself or have a local guy bend them for yah? What color of paint does the owner have picked out? So how big of tire can you get in that rear wheel well. I got 275-50/15 on mine and it is tight on the inner fender well.

You got a picture of how you tied the sub frames together?

When did you guys start on this project?

Great thread
Scott

That car is going to be awesome. I love seeing pics. Good to learn off of. I can't wait to see the finished product! Keep up the good work. I'm especially impressed about the cage and how well its integrated into the whole structure of the car and how you hid it in the upper fender apron section.

Here are some answers for ya.

The cage is all built by us. we have bent all the bars, did all the thinking about how to put the bars. i know its not the cookie cutter cage that most people out there have, i understand most people don't have the tools or know how to build something like that. like i said before, the cage is way overenginered, but that is for the visual impact.

The paint on the car, it will stay red. the paint on it now is actually in really good shape, so it won't get painted this time around.

The rear tire on the car right now is gonna be a 315/30/18, i think. and there is room to grow. i would think a 345 would be no problem to stuff under there.

This has been a project in the works for quite awhile now. we work on it when we can. as of today, we are just about done with the welding, i have one bar to finish putting one, and just some small places to finish welding. then comes the fun part of grinding and smoothing everything up. we still have a lot of work to do. we are actually gonna try to get it together with the old motor and trans to drive it this summer. then pull it back apart next fall/winter to do more work.

The front and rear subframes are tied together with a 2x4 frame rail and the cage is tied in with it. i can't seem to find any real good pics of it i will take a few next time i am over there. but here are a few i could find.
thanks for the questions

The small channel next to the frame rail is a little tunnel for the brake line and the fuel lines to run through. there is a channel on the inside of both frame rail.
